“Now. Will you to tell me why you brought mehere?”
Dante caressed my hair. “Soon.”
I raised up on one elbow. “Then tell me why you bribed my OB-GYN to find out if I can bear shifter children. That’s a violation of the HIPAAAct.”
“It wasn’t us.” Gabriel stretched out, wriggled his toes. “Earl Brown paid good money to study your physiology after he found out your powers, make sure you were capable of bearing him an heir. Dante merely borrowed theinformation.”
“Borrowed it for what purpose?” Iasked.
I didn’t miss the exchanged glances between the three ofthem.
“I’ll let Dante answer that,” Gabriel finallysaid.
“Yes. We’ll leave you alone now,” Alexdecided.
Gabriel and Alex dressed and left. Gabriel glanced over his shoulder once, gave Dante the thumbsup.
Then they closed the door behindthem.
The subtle change of energy in the room alerted me something monumental had been planned, but Dante alone wanted to presentit.
I didn’t wait long. He told me to meet him outside on the balcony when I finisheddressing.
The cool air brushed against my face as I walked outside, and the breeze fluttered my dress hem. Dante stood at the railing, gazing at the meadowsbelow.
“This life, this pack, this ranch is important to me, Peyton. I never imagined meeting someone who would be equallyimportant.”
He turned and dropped to one knee, opening a black velvet box. “We talked it over, and decided. We love you, Peyton. We desire you. We want you to be our mate. Forlife.”
I stared at the glittering sapphire set with tinydiamonds.
“Are you asking me to marryyou?”
He nodded. “Myself, Alex and Gabriel. You would be mated to all ofus.”
I couldn’t think, could barely breathe. Yet deep inside, I’d anticipated this, felt it coming, so I shouldn’t feel as stunned as I nowdid.
“Shouldn’t Alex and Gabriel have a say inthis?”
“They asked me to present the offer to you. Alex… he doesn’t handle rejection well and neither doesGabriel.”
Confusion filled me. I know how a human marriage worked. But shifters? Especially with more than one husband? Perhaps details wouldhelp.
“How does it work with multiplepartners?”
Dante stood and caressed my cheek. “When you become our mate, I will claim you first, as I did at the club. Alex and Gabriel will have a turn as well. When it comes time for offspring, I will impregnate you first. After the baby is born and an acceptable time has passed, you will bear offspring for Alex and Gabriel aswell.”
Wow. Whoa. This took polygamy to a whole new playing level. “Kind of like what the Mormon men did hundreds of years ago when they took several wives and had lot of kids with them. Do we make up a schedule? I sleep with you on weekends, while Alex gets me Tuesdays and Gabriel takes HumpDay?”
Dante compressed his lips. I sensed his impatience and growing anger. “It is a serious matter to us shifters, Peyton. Not something tomock.”
“Who’s mocking? I’m trying to pinpoint exactly what you’re proposing, Dante. I’ve never had this kind of proposal before. Or any kind of proposal. Except for Bobby Brown, who asked me to marry him when we were in the secondgrade.”
The alpha’s gaze narrowed. “Who is this Bobby Brown and where is henow?”
“Jealous?”
Dante seized my hand, gave my fingers a long lick. “Do not test me,Peyton.”
