Page 6 of Single Omega Dad
I could fume about it until I burst into flames and it wouldn’t help. This was the world, fair or not. It infuriated me mainly for my sons. Little Tybor was never going to get all the freedoms his brother Luke could take for granted.
I took a deep breath and let it out in a hiss, making sure the Alpha heard me. The boys were up by 6:30 am every day. They hadn’t started kindergarten yet.
“Mornings,” I replied through gritted teeth.
“Very well. Is tomorrow, nine-thirty a.m. Wednesday the twelfth all right?”
“That will be fine!”
“I thank you for doing business with Journey Bank, and have a nice--”
I hung up before he could finish.
The next morning I had the boys freshly bathed and dressed in time for our outing. I styled my straight, blond hair away from my face and behind my ears, and wore my best suit, though I wasn’t sure why I bothered. We were going to be discussingmymoney. I should have been able to show up in a ripped t-shirt and jeans if I wanted.
I strapped the boys into the backseat of the minivan and off we went.
Ten minutes later we pulled into the parking garage of the bank, which was located in a two-story building in the middle of the city.
For a long moment, after turning off the engine, I sat and did nothing.
Finally, Luke said, “Daddy, are we getting out here?”
“Yes, baby. I just needed to take a minute to be quiet and think.”
“Okay, Daddy,” he said softly.
It infuriated me that I had to do this meeting, but I knew if I went inside in my current mood it would just make matters worse. I took deep breaths. I forced my fists to unclench.
When I felt ready, my muscles relaxed and my breathing calmed, I undid my seatbelt and opened the driver’s side door.
I got out and slid the passenger door back, reaching in, undoing the twins’ seatbelts on their car seats, and helping them out.
They looked so cute standing side by side, mirror images of each other, Alpha to Omega, wearing their little suits with cut-off pants and knee high socks with their best black shoes.
“Now,” I said, waggling my finger at them. “You two stay close to my side at all times. Hold hands. And no running around. Use your inside voice, okay?”
“Okay, Daddy,” they replied in unison.
Together, walking through the gray and rust shadows of the parking structure, we strolled through the entrance of Journey Bank.
Chapter Three
Mathias
“I totally need this favor, Mathias,” said the voice on the phone. “The meeting’s at 9:30 and I can’t make it.”
Cord was not really my friend, but we’d shared some meals and gone to some parties together, and I guess maybe all that meant more to him. He worked downstairs. I was upper management. Upperuppermanagement.
“Guardianships aren’t my area,” I said. “I’m on the Board for fuck’s sake. Get your ass in here and do your job!”
“I’ve got too much on my plate.”
“I know. Your new Omega lover.” I rolled my eyes.
Cord had been coming to me more and more lately, asking if he could go home early, or come in to work later than his schedule demanded.
“We’re bonding and it’s affecting my Burn schedule.”
