Page 8 of Serena (Shattered Queens #1)

Iam speechless, and that says something.

I just stand here as she walks past me. We make eye contact, her big brown eyes.

She’s in a hurry to leave whatever this situation is.

She is definitely angry, and I see the result of that in the man who is still on his knees trying to breathe through the pain of being kneed in the balls and punched.

Ouch. That was an impressive right hook.

I heard him try to say her name. Hearing him say it made me want to go over and slit his throat. Especially after the reaction she had to him. I'm not above getting my hands dirty; I actually enjoy it, but this isn’t the place.

Earlier, when I noticed Serena was gone, I kept an eye on Yuri and saw this asshole say something to her. They seemed to be in a heated discussion, so when Yuri walked away, I decided to take a walk and look for my little brunette beauty.

I saw her through the window that overlooks the balcony.

Her head to the open sky, closing her eyes as if waiting to be carried away.

The moon shining on her added a halo, like a fucking queen wearing her crown.

Her full lips parted as she breathed, trying to calm herself down.

Talking to herself, repeating words I couldn’t make out.

Lifting her hand to her neck, her other one balling into a fist. Then, as if nothing, she straightened, her emotional mask snapping back into place, restoring her flawless composure.

The moment the asshole walked through the doors, a flicker of hesitation crossed his face, unsure if he should approach.

This wasn’t a lovers’ quarrel; I know for certain she isn’t seeing or fucking anyone.

No, this was something else. I tensed when I saw the look on her face, my muscles coiled, and my fists were ready.

I made my way to her, but I was too late.

By the time I made it to the balcony, he was on the floor, one hand to his face, the other between his legs.

I couldn’t help but smile as I took in the damage she left. Right in the family jewels.

“Is everything okay out here?” I ask. I've seen her from afar, but being this close to her, it’s different.

She’s captivating, and I am drawn to her like a moth to a flame.

I can see her completely. This woman is nothing but regal, the epitome of elegance, but her eyes tell a different story.

My admiration is cut short. She walks past me to go back inside, but I don’t miss the electric current that passes between us.

I stand here like a statue with a grin on my face.

Before I walk back inside, I turn to the man who’s still on his knees, whining like a little bitch.

There is something that I’m missing here, and I’m going to find out what that is.

I make my way back to the party and look around, but she is gone again.
