Wes’s eyes shifted. “Trek Atlanta. It’s a convention—for Star Trek fans.”
Cara’s lips parted slightly, but the laugh he half expected didn’t come. Instead, she smiled.
“Yes! Is it like Comic Con?”
His shoulders dropped with relief. “Basically. They have panels with actors from all the different franchises, and people get together—clubs, online forums—we don’t have to do all that, if you don’t want to.”
“Sounds like fun! I’ve never been to anything like that.”
“Cool.” Wes sipped his water, fighting the urge to grin. “They’re actually VIP tickets. I got them from Peachtree Pictures—that movie I’m working on. A woman I knew in high school works there. She introduced me to a couple of people last time I was at the studio. They all seemed nice.”
Wes wasn’t particularly interested in socializing, but Cara had mentioned more than once that she hadn’t met a lot of people in the city.
Her eyes lit up. “Who are we going to go as?”
“Um, what?”
“Which characters are we going to be? The easy answer is I could be Counselor Troi, but I don’t want to. She’s kind of a know it all, and she irritates me. But then again, I could wear a wig, and that’s always fun.”
“I wasn’t going to dress up.” Wes shook his head to emphasize his point.
“Ofcourse, we are going to dress up. Are you kidding me? This will be the first time I’ve had a chance to practice some of the tricks I’ve learned on YouTube!” She made an exaggerated pout. “Pretty please, Wes.”
His brain froze like the dreaded wheel of death on a computer monitor right before it crashed. His gaze fell to her plump lips, and a sudden intense need to lean across the table and claim them consumed him.
“You can be Data. It won’t require too much latex.”
Cara gnawed on her lip the way she always did when she was thinking, and his body seized, watching her teeth work at her plump lower lip. Heat raced through him, and Wes was grateful he was sitting, the table keeping him from embarrassing himself. What was wrong with him? He was acting like a teenager!
“Can you order the costumes?”
Her question broke through the haze, and he dragged his eyes from her mouth.
“Wes?”
“Yeah, sure. Whatever you want.” He couldn’t imagine saying no to her when she looked at him like that.
“Great!” Cara chattered on about what she could do to transform them, but Wes barely heard a word.
Fuck.
This was getting out of hand if he couldn’t even share a meal with her without getting an erection!
He stood abruptly and hurried into the kitchen with his dish. “I’m going to the gym.”
“I thought you went earlier?”
Wes didn’t answer, only grabbed his keys and ran.
CHAPTERELEVEN
“Stop fidgeting.”Cara swatted at Wes’s hand, when he attempted to scratch the latex pad she had attached to his chin that morning. “You won’t be able to get through.” Cara placed the backs of her fingers under his jaw and rubbed.
Wes groaned, “That’s not helping.”
“This isn’t supposed to be uncomfortable!” She put her hands on her hips. “Let’s go back to the room, and I’ll take off the chin piece. I brought the white crème foundation. I should be able to blend it.”
Wes rolled his shoulders in his polyester costume. “But we have fast passes for Brent Spiner.”
