While Elliot takes care of Wren, Rhett all but drags me into his room.

“You know,” I say as he turns the shower on, “I would’ve come willingly.”

“Don’t pretend you don’t like it when I manhandle you, O.”

I can’t help but smile. He’s right.

Once the water is warm, Rhett pulls me into the shower and soaps me up. He does this whenever he can, and considering he can’t keep his hands off me, I figured today wouldn’t be the exception.

I relax as he scrubs me down with a washcloth. This is probably the only alone time I’ll get with Rhett today, and I have no desire to do anything except bask in his attention.

“How was the movie?” he asks.

“All right. A lot of stupid stunt moves, but at least Ell and I laughed a lot. Wished you were there, though.”

“I know.” He pushes me under the spray of water. “But having Wren here when I woke up was probably for the best. Got in more training.”

After she finished work this afternoon, Elliot picked her up and brought her here. She had the choice to either come to the movie with us or stay home and hang out with Rhett when he woke up. She chose the latter, saying she didn’t want him to wake up alone, which I thought was really sweet.

Rhett finishes rinsing me off and then cleans himself. I’d offer to help, but I know he won’t let me. So instead I take in the lines and curves of his body, watching the way his muscles flex as he runs his washcloth across his skin.

“Once we get back from this job, I want to do something nice for Wren,” he says as he rinses off. “With all of us. Take her out on a date or something.”

“Yeah?” I smile. Seeing Rhett care for her has hope blooming in my chest. Opening up to Wren has been hard for him, but he’s doing the best he can, just like he does for me and Ell. It’s been so long since he’s let someone else in that I was beginning to think it’d never happen.

“I like it when she smiles.”

This man is fucking adorable.

“And she’s been stressed lately, I think,” Rhett continues. “Makes sense considering everything we put her through last week. Plus the shit going down with her family. And Adam.”

Rhett spits Adam’s name out of his mouth with disgust. After last Tuesday when I found Wren unceremoniously beating her ex over the head with a book,Rhett has wanted to kill the guy. Almost did, actually, but Wren asked him not to. So Rhett let Adam move out of the city instead.
