She nods, but barely. “Yeah, I’m sure.” Taking a step back, she wipes away more tears. “I should go. I’m supposed to be at work soon, but haven’t even called them to tell them I can’t make it. Are you sure we’re good?”
Nodding, I kiss her again just to confirm it. “We’re fine, baby girl. Promise.”
She weakly squeezes my hand, retreating before I can say another word. The second she’s gone, my phone is queued up, ready to go to war.
Pippa picks up on the first ring.
“Figured I’d be getting a call soon,” she replies, the smugness evident in her tone. “I’m guessing she told you who we bumped into last night?”
“More like who you orchestrated to be there.”
She laughs. “You act like I planned that shit.”
“Didn’t you?”
“Perhaps,” she says, toying with me, making me even more enraged. “Or perhaps he’s been stalking her this whole time?”
“Fuck off, Pippa. I know you did this. It has your name written all over it.”
“I do hope it’s in pink glitter. You know how much I love pink glitter, Eddie. You did wake up with it all over your dick the next morning.”
My fingers curl around my phone, my entire body vibrating with hatred.
“Listen here, Bitch. I’m tired of your games. I’m only calling to tell you that we’re done. Friendship and all. You’ve done nothing but sabotage my relationship since it began, and I’m over it. Do me a favor and stay the fuck away from me and my girl.”
Her laughter fills the phone. “Hard to do when I’m supposed to be in your wedding party in a week.”
“You’re uninvited.”
“You can’t uninvite me, motherfucker. Only Amber can.”
“She’s on her way home right now to confront you, Pippa. She’s going to tell you exactly what I’m telling you right now. We don’t want you there.”
Her tone shifts ever so slightly. “And what if she walks through that door right now and I tell her everything? What will you do then?”
“I’ll beg for forgiveness. Everything I did, I did under the influence. I would’ve never fucked you willingly.”
“And yet you did. Many, many times that night. Over and over again. You marked me as yours. You begged for me to stay the night and hold you until morning. Don’t you get it, Eddie? I’m the one who’s always been here for you. The one that would walk on water just to save you from drowning. Amber’s left you multiple times, but me, I’ve always been here. I’m the one who fucking worships you—the one who will always be here.”
“We’re done, Pippa. Whatever you think we have is over. I love my fiancée, and I’m done with you wrecking my relationship.”
The line goes silent.
“Pippa?”
“Sorry, I’m just trying to figure out exactly what I’m going to say to her when she walks through that door.”
“If you fuck this up for me—”
“You’ll what? Break my heart even more? Face it, Eddie, there’s nothing you can do to me right now that you haven’t already done to me in the past.”
“If you say one word to her, I’ll—”
“Oh, I think I just heard her car. Goodbye, Eddie.”
“Pippa, don’t—”
But the bitch hangs up on me mid word, her manic laughter the only thing I hear before the line suddenly goes dead.
