Story: Romancing the Rake

Birdie snuggled closer to Thorne. They were finally celebrating their honeymoon. “Are you going to fight Napoleon again?”

He wrapped his arms around her, resting his chin on her head. “I have sold my commission, I won’t be going back to the army, but my country still needs me.”

“Us. Our country needs us.” She eased out of his arms, turning to face him. “We’re a team, Thorne Blackwood. We will serve this country together.”She leaned down to kiss him. “I’m sorry about your father’s involvement with the abduction.”

He sighed. “Me too, madam, but it finally gave us the means necessary to make him step down from the duchy. My brother will be a fair duke.”

She smiled. “Yes, and we will make excellent agents for the crown. Together we can handle whatever life throws at us.”

His wife was amazing, fierce, and fearless. “Yes, we are an unstoppable team.” He caressed her cheek, moving down to touch her neck and her naked shoulder. “I will serve from here.”

She nodded. “Good. I like the idea of having my husband home at night and I with my help, we’ll get things done much faster,”she teased.

“Ah, you think so, do you?” He kissed her, knowing they might not have every night together like this, but they would always come back to each other.

There was still a lot of work to be done.

He might be a redeemed rake, but there were some jobs only a rake could handle.

Thankfully, one of those jobs was pleasing his wife.

He growled. “I have something you can help me with right now, wife.”He grinned as she purred her response.
