BIG MISTAKE, DOCTOR

A sh sauntered over as Alice shovelled in her last forkful of chicken curry.

“Mmm,” Alice moaned as she devoured the mouthful. “You’ve got to try this. It is, without a doubt, the tastiest curry I’ve ever eaten.”

“Well, we are known for our curries.” Ash laughed as she took the vacant seat next to Alice.

“Yeah, but this was...” Alice chef’s-kissed her fingers and reclined in the chair. “Sorry, I didn’t wait for you, the smell was driving me wild.”

Ash batted away the apology. “No, I’m glad you ate. I was gone for ages. There was a lot to say, I guess. But I see you made friends, so I don’t feel so bad.”

“I told you I would.”

In the queue for the buffet, Alice had got chatting with a woman who turned out to be Ash’s second cousin. She’d complimented Alice’s outfit and guided her to avoid the extra-hot dishes so they didn’t blow her head off. Alice was sitting with her and two older women, who insisted Alice call them ‘auntie’, plus an elderly man, who only had three teeth but a lovely big smile.

“So, how did it go?” Alice asked.

Ash drew in a breath. “Yeah, good. Really good, actually.”

What does that mean? In what she thought was a subtle move, Alice peered over Ash’s shoulder to see if she could spot Sam.

“She’s gone. She told Navi she had a headache and they left.”

“Oh. Do you want to talk about it?”

Ash frowned and shook her head. “I mean, yes, I want to talk to you… but not about Sam. Do you fancy getting some air?”

“Sure. Don’t you want to eat first?”

Ash puffed out a laugh. “No, maybe later… I can’t just yet.”

Ash led Alice away from the party, until they were outside on an empty terrace, barely lit aside from a few flickering lanterns. In the daytime, there’d likely be a stunning view of the hotel grounds. But only darkness stretched out ahead of them now, a parallax in shades of night.

A cool breeze caused Alice to shiver and rub the chill from her arms.

“Are you warm enough?”

“Yeah, I’m fine, just adjusting. It’s pretty hot in there, so it’s nice to cool down.”

“There’s a bench over there.” Ash gestured to a shadowy corner.

Alice tried to ignore the bite of jealousy at the realisation that this was where Ash had been with Sam earlier. They sat for a while, their eyes adjusting to the low light. Music and voices bled out from the function room, but the enveloping night seemed to absorb the sound into a hushed muffle.

Alice broke their silence. “So, are you going to tell me what happened with Sam?”

Ash exhaled. “We had a good chat, put a few things to rest. She said she’s happy, but she misses me and would love to spend some time together again.”

“Oof, the classic stab and twist to hook you back in.” Alice gestured with her hand.

“Yeah, but it didn’t work. It’s taken a long time, but I’ve finally moved on. I’m not willing to be dragged into any games.” A tendril of hair fell over Ash’s face. She tucked it back and turned to look at Alice. “Besides, I told her I’ve met someone.”

Alice stilled.

“You’re the first person I’ve met since Sam, who I’ve had any sort of feelings for. And I’ve been trying so hard to just be a friend to you. I didn’t want to be the person swooping in to take advantage of a situation.”

“I never thought that?—”

“I was crushed when Sam left. All I needed was a friend to pull me out of the hole I’d fallen into, not someone trying to get into my pants.”

Alice chewed her lip. “Well, as much as I’ve liked having a friend…”

Ash scratched the back of her neck. “I feel like a total creep saying this, but I was drawn to you from the moment you walked into my A butterflies erupted in her stomach at the thought that soon they’d be alone together. Ash must have read her mind, as she leaned in and whispered. “I can’t wait to get you out of that onesie.”

Alice wanted to kiss that delicious grin right off her face.

“Do you think anyone would miss us if we left?” Ash asked.

They stood at the perimeter of the room, so close that no one would have noticed as Ash’s fingers curled between Alice’s.

“Definitely not.” Alice squeezed Ash’s hand.

“That’s what I hoped you’d say.”

It was unlikely that anyone cared when they left, but they’d treated it like a covert mission, slipping out the door, dashing to the car, grabbing their bags, and sneaking back inside when the coast was clear. Behind the closed door of their hotel room their laughter burst out. When Ash caught her breath, she moved in front of Alice, tucked a tendril of loose curls behind her ear and harpooned her with a look of pure want.

If their first kiss was sweet, then their second was spicy, and loaded with passion. Their lips crushed together, Alice opened her mouth to let Ash in and groaned as their tongues slipped together. Alice pushed Ash towards the bed, but as they neared, Ash spun her around and lifted Alice’s legs around her waist.

Alice giggled. “You’re stronger than you look.”

“Oh, thanks. I’ll have you know I go to the gym every day. These are arms of steel. Unlike your silly breakable arms.” Ash lowered her onto the bed, still wrapped between her legs as they collapsed back, lost in another kiss.

“You’ve made a big mistake, Doctor.”

“Huh?”

“The ‘onesie’ zip is at the back.” Alice wrestled Ash around with her thighs until she was straddling her. Ash sat up between Alice’s legs, reaching around to the zip. After freeing her arms from the sleeves, Alice let the jumpsuit drop to her waist. Ash whimpered at the sight of her breasts all wrapped up in their lacy bra, and she buried her face in Alice’s cleavage.

“I’ve wanted to do this since I watched you eat that muffin.” Ash unclipped the bra and pulled it away with her teeth until Alice’s breasts bounced free. “Oh, fuck. You’re so beautiful.”

Alice moaned, rocking herself into Ash’s lap as Ash licked and nibbled at her skin.

“You know that first morning we woke up together?”

“Yeah?”

“I was having the most incredible dream about us.” Ash traced her fingertips up Alice’s bare back. Alice arched with the sensation, thrusting her breasts forward. Ash captured a nipple in her mouth and sucked it hard.

“Yeah, well I was wide awake and enjoying you grinding me.”

Ash looked up with a devilish grin. “I shouldn’t have stopped then?”

“I didn’t want you to. Perhaps we could try it again in the morning?”

“I don’t intend to wait until the morning.” Ash pulled Alice down to her, and in one quick twisting manoeuvre she was back on top with Alice frantically pawing at her shirt buttons. When the shirt finally fell open, Ash yanked it from her arms and flung it across the room. Alice let her hands wander over Ash’s smooth skin. She wanted to explore every inch of her, first with her fingers, then with her tongue.

“May I remove the rest of your onesie?”

Alice laughed. “Yeah, but only if you stop calling it that.”

Ash knelt up to liberate Alice’s legs. “Oh my God, you are so incredibly—” she growled and lowered her mouth to Alice’s curves. Alice arched her back with want and pleasure as Ash trailed a finger along her stomach, down to the moist fabric of her underwear.

“Oh, hello. Someone’s excited to play!”

“You better believe it.” Alice gasped as Ash firmly cupped a hand over her aching sex, then added pressure with her knee between Alice’s legs.

“Can I touch you too?”

Ash whimpered her consent and Alice reached between them and pushed a hand into her trousers.

“Shall I take them off?” Ash gasped.

“Later, but right now, don’t stop what you’re doing to me,” Alice panted as she worked a hand into Ash’s underwear. “I’m not the only one who’s excited to play.”

As Alice slipped inside her, Ash released a guttural moan, and in one swift move, she pushed aside Alice’s lace panties and entered her too. They rocked together until Alice’s noisy climax pulled Ash over the edge with her, and they collapsed next to each other in a semi-naked, breathless heap.

Alice turned her head on the pillow and met Ash’s gaze, her eyelids heavy with post-coital lust and that wonky grin dimpling her cheek. This time, Alice couldn’t resist kissing it right off her gorgeous face.

“Right,” Ash purred, “let’s get you out of those wet clothes.”
