Page 96 of Pack of Crooks
Jo’s mouth drops open and she looks at him. “Mac!” Those three letters are carved across her skin, right above the line of her dress, the M dipping below it.
I always knew Mac was intense, but that’s a new level of possessiveness. Jo doesn’t seem to mind though. In fact, I think she likes it.
He shrugs, pulling out a knife to clean his nails. “I’m not wrong.”
Sighing, Jo shakes her head and glances at us. “So, is there an omega?”
“The one and only,” Kill says.
Lark and Vette share a look.
Maddox shifts on his feet. “What?”
“Are your heads in the game?” Vette asks.
“We can’t afford distractions tonight.”
“Just because we’re falling in love doesn’t mean we can’t take out this trafficking ring,” I say with a little growl of frustration. They of all people should know love doesn’t make you soft.
The alphas smirk.
I narrow my eyes. Sometimes being the only beta in the room sucks. I don’t know how those three alphas manage to get along. I’m surprised Jo hasn’t choked on all the alpha pheromones. “We’re good.”
“Okay,” Lark says, nodding. He’s always a little quieter. I think he helps balance the other two. “I disabled the security system.”
“And I took down a mile radius of city cameras.”
“Perfect. So we’re ready then?” He directs the question to Jo.
She nods and shucks off the light jacket she’s wearing. Her dress is tight and short, a proper distraction for the guards. She’s wearing a leather forearm cuff that I know conceals a dagger that’s activated by her clenching her fists. Jo will have her palm on their chest and they won’t even see her blade coming.
“Give me a minute to work, boys.” She strides around the block and we trail after her, keeping to the brick fence surrounding the building and stopping when she sashays through the gate.
“Hey, what are you—oh. Damn, baby, those legs go for miles,” some dude says.
Her pack stifles growls. Kill and I share a look and roll our eyes. And they say we’re distracted.
“Hey, sugar,” Jo purrs. The guy probably doesn’t notice the danger lacing through those words, but I can practically taste the thirst for blood as she continues. “I’m lost.”
“Is that so?” another voice asks. “We can help you find your way.”
“Can you. . . help me in other ways?” she asks, voice pitched low for seduction.
The guys fall for it. Fucking idiots.
“I’ll chop their dicks off if they touch her,” Mac mutters.
“¡Cállate!”Vette snaps.
Mac flips him off.
Vette mutters in Spanish, something about Mac being an asshole, but a heavy grunt has me refocusing my attention. There’s a gurgle, a shout from one of the guards, and then thesound of someone’s body slapping against the pavement. That’s all her pack can take. Lark, Vette, and Mac surge forward.
Exhaling, I shake my head. “So much for discretion.”
“It’ll be fine,” Kill murmurs, nudging me with his arm.
Maddox tips his head. “We should follow.”
