Monster

Ondine

T he next time I wake up, I’m hallucinating.

I must be, because Shadow Meier is looking down at me.

He looks cool as a cucumber. His hands are in his pockets.

He’s got a soft smile on his face. He looks angelic in this light.

I look over to the little windows at the top of the ceiling. It must be morning.

Shadow takes out his hands and pantomimes, “Can you move?”

Why doesn’t he speak to me?

I take a deep breath and move my arms. It’s difficult but doable. I go to sit up but then I feel Boone. He’s laying in bed with me, his arms overtop and his hand between my breasts and between my legs.

Shadow puts his hands out to stop me, though I’ve already figured out my situation. Then he places his index finger over his lips. Quiet. I nod in understanding.

Then, true to his namesake, he backs away under the windows into a corner of the room, blending into the shadows.

Boone’s warmth is making me sweat. It’s then I notice I’m naked. And so is he. My eyes blow wide and I take another glance into the shadowy corner.

I feel Boone stir awake.

He pulls me into him tighter.

“You’re awake,” he says drowsily. “Oh god you feel amazing. It’s been so hard not to take you in your sleep.”

Is he going to try to fuck me?

“No, absolutely not. Did you get me naked?”

I’m so worried Shadow may think I did this willingly. Does Shadow think I fucked Boone?

“Calm down. Of course I took off your clothes. And relax, I’m not going to fuck you just yet. But, maybe you can help get me off…” Boone begins to rock his hips behind me, his naked cock pushes into my ass cheek.

“Stop! Stop!” I scream, though I can barely get the words out, and fight my way out of his arms. He holds me while I thrash and then lets go, causing me to fall out of the bed onto the floor. I tumble out at a weird angle and it fucking hurts. But at least I’m not touching him anymore.

He sits up in the bed and reaches for me.

I snap at him with my teeth. I have control over my limbs, but they feel like they are filled with cement.

My mouth is parched. Boone walks out of the room, leaving me on the ground seething.

He comes back in with pants on, holding some clothes and a glass of water.

He then presents me some pills.

“I can dissolve them up into the water, or you can swallow them. Your choice.”

“Choke on a dick, Boone,” I say instead. I don’t let my eyes dart to the dark corner another man stands in. He doesn’t even feel his presence. He doesn’t smell him. Hear him. Nothing.

“Good morning to you too, sweetheart. How did you sleep?” He says with a wry tone. I can tell he’s a bit sour. I didn’t let him finish on me. “You can deny how well you slept with me in your arms.”

“I was drugged.”

He shrugs.

My hand comes up and scratches my bond mark absentmindedly. It takes a second for both of us to register to movement.

“Oh my god!” He says with the same enthusiasm as a man who just found out his omega is pregnant. “It’s happening!”

I clamp my hand down on my mark. Is the severing happening?! Tears well up in my eyes.

“I knew the drugs would help! This is going so well!” He pulls me up off the ground into a hug. As horrified and scared as I am, it gives me a chance to look at Shadow. He looks angry. Determined. Calm. He shakes his head a little. He doesn’t want me to give away his position.

Boone sets me on the bed, then cracks open the pills, letting the powder pour into the water. He tosses the casings into a little trash and then makes me drink the water. I gurgle and spit, but I’m too thirsty to not let some of it down. A lot of it down.

“I’m going to get you dressed, so I need you to be still ,“ he commands with his alpha voice. The command comes at me true, but rolls right off of me like water. I can ignore it.

He doesn’t have a strong bark like my alphas. It’s paltry.

He then puts a shirt over my head. His own. One he’s worn recently. I absolutely do not want to wear his clothes, but I put my arms through it anyway. He lays me back and pulls on some sweats. His fingers touch me everywhere. Right over the curls above my pussy.

He leaves to take the water away into the kitchen. I manage to get back up to a sitting position.

There’s a knock at a door, somewhere out in the main area. I twist my head to Shadow—he touches his lips again. Wait.

I hear a man’s voice. “Boone, Jake and some of his pack mates are at the front door. Now is not a good time.”

“Yes, Alpha.”

“I don’t want them near your mother.”

“Yes, Alpha.”

We really are at his parents’ house. At a basement apartment. I slide off the bed and test my legs. I wonder how long I have before these pills kick in.

Boone comes back into the room.

“I have to go take care of something, but I have food for you when you are ready. I’ve given you some uppers.

I need you a bit fresh so we can test out some other methods.

I’m going to bathe you. Then I want to fuck you and knot you.

I just have to…” his voice trails off and he doesn’t even stay to finish the thought. He just leaves.

He’s not going to fucking touch me again.

Uppers. I guess that’s better than more of whatever else I’ve been given. Shadow takes a few steps toward me, then kneels down. I’m sitting on the edge of the bed.

“Ondine,” he says and I start crying. I missed his voice. My hand is on my bond mark. It itches.

Shadow puts his hands on my face and wipes my tears away. He’s real. For a moment there I was worried he was a ghost.

“Jake is giving us time to get you out. But I’d like to stay and slit his throat. I’ll let you decide. Slip out of here before or after I end his life?”

His figgy smell is so welcoming and I find myself rubbing into him. “I need my mate,” I whimper.

“And Boone’s life?”

“He is making a case against the Meier Pack. He’s legally made himself my handler.”

Shadow nods. “Yeah, my mother alerted us to this. She did it by inviting me to meet a new omega,” he says and my eyes narrow at him.

What the fuck? He continues, “but she gave us the information all the same. He can bring down the entire police department to our front lawn to enforce that shit and we’d still never give you up. ”

I wrap my arms and legs around him. He stands up, holding me on him. I feel so delicate in his arms.

“His death? We can end this now.”

“I don’t know, Shadow.”

“Ok, my love. I understand. Let’s get you out of here.”

He pulls me even closer to him, and I cross my ankles behind his back.

“Kiss me?” I ask, with tears still in my eyes.

With all the tenderness in the world, Shadow kisses me. He kisses me like I’m special. And precious. Like he loves me like I love him.

Suddenly my head is yanked back by my hair, and Shadow drops to the ground in one boneless heap.

The sound of a taser sparking is drowned out by my screams. Boone yanks me again and this time into his body.

His fingers grip my hair so tight I know he’s pulled a lot of it out.

I look down at Shadow, who is completely unconscious on the floor. Boone holds the taser away from us.

“This was going to be for you if you got out of line. Guess I needed it for more things. Like fuck-ass alphas.”

Boone spits on Shadow’s crumpled up form.

I scream and cry and try to get his hand out of my hair.

He pulls me out into the main room and slams the door shut to the bedroom.

“How did that fucker even get in here?” He asks himself. Boone’s phone is ringing. He pulls me up to the kitchen counter and then, after seeing it’s Sebastian calling, he answers it.

“Boone, I could smell her on you.”

“Don’t fuck around with me, Sabbies. Your boy Friday was down here trying to take my legal ward. He’s trespassing on my property, trying to rob me! I’m well within my rights to kill him on sight.”

Sebastian plows on. “Let me see her. I need to see her.”

This softens Boone. He finally loosens his grip in my hair.

He thinks for a few seconds and then says, “I’m not a killer, Sabbies. Come get Jake’s alpha. I’ll let you see my omega. But you have to promise you’re only here to remove the body.”

“And if I wanted to stay? Stay with you?” I’m shocked by his words for only a moment, before I hear the lie. Sebastian is a terrible liar. Boone hears the lie too.

“I’m not stupid like you, my friend. Retrieve the body. That’s all I’ll allow.”

The phone goes dead and there’s a knock on a metal door near the kitchen. It’s a back exit. Sebastian must have realized where I was being held.

The door is heavily locked and reinforced. But it’s still just a basement apartment. Not a bunker.

Boone wraps his arm around my waist and hauls me with him to the door, where he unlocks and unfastens it. He opens to just Sebastian. His orange scent hits me like a wall. My bond mark itches and I whimper.

His lips quiver, but then he steals himself.

“Boone.”

He stands at the bottom of a cement staircase. I can only see the stairs behind him. No signs of Jake, Freddie, or Arnie.

“Alpha,” Boone says with a softness that makes me want to hurl. Sebastian enters all on his own and Boone locks the door behind him.

“She doesn’t look well,” Sebastian points out as he wanders around the small space. A couple of couches. Table. Kitchenette.

“Well, no, she wouldn’t be. But I was just about to give her a bath and clean her up a bit.”

Oh great, let’s talk about me like I’m not here.

“What’s happening here, Boone? Why did you take her?”

“She’s mine,” he answers so simply it leaves no room for argument.

I can feel my heart beating and it’s actually doing something now. Supplying my body with all sorts of energetic chemicals. My eyes clear. My hands are no longer weighty and difficult to maneuver. My legs are bouncy.

The uppers.

“You took her from me.”

“I took her from those alphas who don’t deserve her. Freddie, Jake, and Shadow. I’d never take her from you.”

I notice he doesn’t even mention Arnie.

“And yet you tell me I can’t stay. Let me help you. I’m in this with you. Whatever you’re doing.” Lie. His scent even changes.

It pisses Boone off.

I let out a strangled noise as he tosses me onto a nearby couch and goes after Sebastian.

I switch. Like a monster coming out of my body to replace the old human Ondine. Boone’s hand latches onto Sebastian’s throat. And it’s all I need.
