Page 86 of Obsession
This is such a bad idea.
I should tell Chapman.
Dismissing that thought, I walk up the creaky steps, and time seems to slow as I peer around the corner. There’s no sign of him, and the eerie stillness presses in.
I clench my hands at my sides and take measured, slow steps closer to the bathroom door. Outside, a car drives past, cutting through the thick silence that has my fragile sanity clutched in its grip.
“Robbie?”
No response.
My heart’s erratic rhythm makes me dizzy, and the panic is so close to the surface that I can taste its succulent notes. I guess where Robbie is concerned, a healthy dose of fear will always be involved. It’s the price I pay to be in his spotlight, blinded by the intensity of his mere presence. I can sense him now as I push open the door to the bathroom, peering inside. He’s all around me. Waiting and watching.
“Robbie?”
The bathroom is empty. I turn around, glancing at the bedroom door, which is ajar. Heart in my throat, I turn fully. “Robbie?” My shaky voice is even weaker now.
Approaching slowly, I pause just outside, listening for any sounds. There’s nothing.
I apply pressure to the oak wood. The hinges creak as I peer inside. Robbie stands by the window with his hands in hispockets and his back to me. He knows I’m here but doesn’t turn around or acknowledge me as I enter the room.
“Did you kill the owner of that suit?” I ask carefully.
His chin touches his shoulder as he replies, “Would you mind if I did?”
Licking my lips nervously, I venture deeper into the room, keeping my distance. Robbie is dangerous. More animal than man. And while something tells me he would never hurt me, he sets me on edge in both the best and worst ways.
I reach out, letting my fingers glide over the flowery bedspread while keeping my gaze on his back. I’m curious about him, and the intrigue I feel keeps me rooted to the spot. Trailing my gaze over his shoulders and down his back to where his waist narrows at his hips, I whisper, “Maybe.”
His lips curve, and he turns fully, his eyes locking onto mine. “Did you like my gift?”
The head.
Curious, I trail my gaze over every hard angle, every rise and fall of his chest, visualizing it bare. “How do you know so much about me, Robbie?”
“Do I make you nervous?” His gravelly voice sends my heart skittering.
I flick my eyes back up to his. “It was reckless to come here, Robbie.”
Smirking, he dips his chin to his chest and licks his lips in a slow, sensual stroke I feel all the way down to my toes.
I’ve had that mouth on me.
“Youmake me reckless, Savannah. You make me want to break all the fucking rules just so I can taste you again. If that makes me an animal, then so be it.”
I take another step closer, stopping short just as I come within reaching distance. His dark eyes sweep over my face, warming me from the inside, and he eats up the distancebetween us with a final step, stroking my hair behind my ear with his warm, calloused fingers. I hold my breath, caught in the undercurrents of his dark ocean. Sucked down with no hope of ever resurfacing.
“Such perfection.”
“Why did you kill him, Robbie?”
He steps even closer and cradles my face between his big, tattooed hands. The sensual way his eyes glide over every inch of my face before settling on my lips makes my heart beat faster. I’m putty in his hands, and his to mold with that nefarious promise in his darkening eyes.
Ruin me, Robbie.
Make me yours.
“I did it for you.”
