She somehow manages to make her tut sound sexy. “You took your time with all of your victims. The notorious Hammond doesn’t rush his kills.”

A smile curves my lips.

Not a smirk, but a real smile.

The kind of smile that’s foreign to me. I can count on one hand the times I’ve felt my cheeks pull back this far, but she likes it, judging by the flaring of her eyes. “You’ve studied my methods?”

“I’ve lost sleep reading countless articles.” There’s a note of reluctance to her admittance, and she draws her hand away. I snatch it back, not ready to let her go just yet. She soon melts back into my touch, sliding her fingers through mine.

My hand tingles everywhere we connect.

“You’re curious about me.”

“You like it.”

“Of course I like it.”

“Why?” Those big eyes flick back down to my mouth, hungry and intense.

“I think about you, Savannah. I like that I’m not alone with my thoughts late at night.”

Dragging her heavy gaze back to mine, a crease forms between her eyebrows. “You’re avoiding the question, Hammond.”
