There aren’t many women who are willing to go toe to toe with Will and stand up to him when he’s being hardheaded. I’m pretty sure that’s why none of his past relationships have lasted longer than a few months.

But Avery is ready to take him on step for step.

Avery: Owen?????? Are you there, too? Or do I need to send Search and Rescue out to find you?

Miles and Will both start laughing. I can’t help but smile as I type out a reply.

Me: I’m here, angel.

Me: That wouldn’t really work, though. I am Search and Rescue.

Avery: Ahh… He speaks. Not just being the creeper in the corner anymore.

This makes me laugh, too, along with my brothers. Somehow, she’s found a way to be the perfect fit for each of us.

Now we just need to savor these next few weeks, so those memories will last long after she’s gone.

I internally smack myself because I already know there’s no way in hell that’s ever going to happen. Whether it was one day, one week, or one year, no length of time would ever be enough with Avery.

CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN

Avery

I nearly vaultoff the chair where I’m currently sitting reading when a strong hand lands on my shoulder. My book flies out of my hands, falling to the grass.

I snap my head to the left, looking over my shoulder as my heart threatens to escape my chest with how fast it’s beating.

“I didn’t mean to scare you,” Owen says, almost sheepishly.

“I guess that military training is still engrained in you,” I say.

He tilts his head slightly to the side in acknowledgment, his hand extended in front of him. I bend to retrieve my book before sliding my hand in his.

He starts to walk toward the house, but I pull him back toward me. His eyes widen in confusion, but it disappears when I wrap my arms around him.

“Hey,” I say.

His smile is soft and comforting. “Hey, angel,” he says, running his hand up my back. He angles his head down so he can place a gentle kiss to my lips.

I revel in the moment for another minute before we both step back. He takes my hand once again as we continue the trek toward the main house.

“Where are you taking me?” I ask.

He points in front of him. “The house.”

“No shit,” I say, which earns me a smile.

“We wanted to spend the evening with you,” he says.

“Who’s we?” I ask, my mind going through all the possibilities. It’s still baffling that Will might be included in this “we.”

I’m not quite sure where he stands on the whole concept as a group. Is he really okay with it?

“Miles, Will, and me,” he says.

Oh, shit. It’s alright. I can do this.

I’ve had sex with all of them individually. I’ve even been with two of them at one time. I can handle three men.Right?
