“You drank the Manhattan, and now you’re bordering on drunk,” Felix said. He was utterly charmed by this side of Rocky.
“I am not drunk,” Rocky said, shaking his head. “It’s just that I rarely drank. Drunk. Drink. I rarelydrink.” Rocky slumped into his seat a little. Uh-oh. “I might be a little drunk.”
“And here I thought this place overcharged their members. Getting smashed for twenty-five bucks is a bargain.”
“Just leave me here so you can investigate.”
“Shh,” Felix said. “No way in hell I’m leaving you here by yourself. There’s no telling what kind of trouble you’d find yourself in.”
Rocky laughed harder than the remark deserved. “Probably end up married again.”
“Married?” Felix asked. “Again?”
“What happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay there.” Rocky leaned forward, then crooked his finger for Felix to get even closer.
“Any closer and I’ll be straddling your lap.”
Rocky let out a snort slash hiccup slash giggle that might’ve been the cutest sound Felix had ever heard in his life. “When I first met you, I thought just maybe you could be the one to make me forget him.” Rocky shook his head. “The son of a bitch got under my defenses, grabbed my heart with both hands, and stole a chunk of it.” Who? His husband? “God, I’m so stupid.” Rocky folded his arms on the table and lowered his forehead to rest on top of them.
Felix ran a hand through Rocky’s silky blond strands. “You’re human, Major. We all trust our hearts with people who don’t deserve them.”
Rocky raised his head so fast that it startled Felix. “Whoa. The room is spinning.”
“I bet.”
“That Jude is a son of a bitch,” Rocky said.
“Yes, but we’re talking about you now.”
“I don’t want to,” Rocky said, laying his head back down on top of his arms.
Felix caught the eye of the server who’d brought Rocky’s drink. He waved the handsome guy over.
“Is everything okay?” he asked, casting a concerned look at Rocky, who gave the server two thumbs up without raising his head.
“My friend isn’t much of a drinker but still chose one of the strongest cocktails on the menu. Could he get a robust cup of coffee? Otherwise, our night is over before it begins.”
The younger man smiled. “Of course, coming right up.”
“Just leave me here,” Rocky said, his voice muffled. “Sebastian will take good care of me.”
“Who’s Sebastian?”
The server chuckled. “I am.”
It was funny how Felix hadn’t caught his name. Rocky sure had though.
“There’s no way I’m leaving you here. We’re going to get you sobered up, then we’ll tour the club.”
“How about something to eat?” Sebastian asked. “Maybe a nice burger and fries? There’s a reason people flock to McDonald’s after closing down a bar.”
Felix would have to take his word for it. They hadn’t eaten dinner yet because they hadn’t anticipated staying at Gentleman Jack’s for long. They didn’t really expect to catch Cameron Spencer engaging in sex acts, but you could judge a person by who they associate with, which was Felix’s aim.
“Make it two burgers and two orders of fries,” Felix told Sebastian.
“Can I get you something to drink? A soda, perhaps?”
Felix ordered a Sprite and thanked Sebastian. He briefly worried about how much this was costing Rocky but got over it when the meal arrived. The burger was made from quality beef. It was juicy and cooked to perfection, and the fries were extra crispy with just the right amount of salt. Rocky showed signs of improvement as soon as he started eating and drinking the strongly brewed coffee.
