“Because I love you,” Jude murmured in his ear.
Felix’s answering shiver had nothing to do with the air temperature. He nestled closer to Jude and returned the sentiment. Felix wanted to start each new day wrapped up in Jude’s arms and love. Decisions could wait. His people came first.
“Yeah, I could eat.”
The food was awful, but it was worth the indigestion to see Rocky’s smartass nature return over a stack of rubbery pancakes and greasy breakfast meat. They hadn’t discussed the events of the evening other than agreeing to bring Jonah and Avery up to speed later. There was no need to wreck their sleep too. By the time the trio parted ways, Jude and Rocky had found a peaceful coexistence in Felix’s world, for which he was eternally grateful.
Felix initially climbed into bed with Jude and Pul when they got home, but his brain wouldn’t shut off. He replayed the conversation with Cameron Spencer on an endless loop, analyzing every spoken word and the silent clues hidden in the man’s body language and expressions. Felix’s brain felt like an overstuffed suitcase again, and he could hear the hinges creaking. They were about to surrender to the laws of physics just as Felix gave up any hope of getting sleep. He crept out of his bedroom and went to his office down the hall. Felix sat at his desk and powered up his computer because his keyboard was the best tool for unpacking a cluttered mind.
Felix wrote for hours, stringing together the timeline of events as well as his thoughts and feelings on each. Like he’d instructed Jimmy, Felix wrote the piece as if he planned to publish it. After he finished, he returned to his room to crawl back into his bed but discovered it was empty. Felix heard the shower running and stripped down on his way to the bathroom.
Felix was grateful for the glass shower doors when he got an eyeful of Jude standing beneath the spray, rinsing soap out of his hair. He watched the suds glide over Jude’s sexy body and swirl around his feet before going down the drain.
Damn, I’m a lucky man.
“Are you going to stand there like a perv or join me?” Jude asked, snagging Felix’s attention.
Felix chuckled as he opened the glass door and stepped inside.
Jude greeted him with a hot kiss. “I missed waking up beside you,” he said once they parted.
“I missed it too.” Felix felt calmer after writing his mock story, but the gravity of the situation still weighed heavily on his shoulders. “I still don’t know what I’m going to do yet.”
Jude cupped Felix’s face. “I do. You’re going to take a shower with me, then we’re going to drink some coffee.”
Jude grabbed the shampoo bottle and squirted some into his palm before working it into Felix’s hair. Felix moaned and leaned harder against Jude, who pressed his fingertips into Felix’s scalp, easing the tension from his body.
“You know I wasn’t talking about morning activities, right?” Felix asked.
Jude turned Felix around and tilted his head to rinse the shampoo out of his hair. Once he finished, Jude nuzzled Felix’s neck, turning him into complete mush. “You’ll do the right thing, Ace. You always do.”
“No solution feels a hundred percent right,” Felix admitted.
His ambitions were at war with his conscience. Felix had made a career out of exposing people like Cameron Spencer, who used their advantage and privilege to avoid getting punished for their evil deeds. Keeping quiet made him feel like a hypocrite. But Felix couldn’t dismiss the sacrifices Spencer was making to get his second chance. Spencer would be looking over his shoulder for the rest of his life, even if the feds were able to make a case against Mercy without his testimony. He’d had to humble himself in front of his wife and children, and that couldn’t be ignored either.
“You’ll pick the option you can live with the easiest,” Jude said, squirting bodywash into his hand. “And I’ll support whatever you decide.”
They took turns washing each other in between kisses, sighs, and moans. Felix ran his thumb over the spot where he’d left his love bite on Jude’s neck. The mark had faded since then, but Felix loved the memory of seeing it peeking above Jude’s shirt collar while he was on air. Felix pressed his lips to Jude’s neck and swirled his tongue over tender skin, feeling Jude’s pulse dance in response.
“Do it,” Jude growled, sliding his hand into Felix’s hair.
Felix chuckled. “You going to cover it up with makeup this time?”
Jude reached down to grip Felix’s ass with his other hand. “Maybe.”
“I think maybe we should take this into my bedroom where we have enough room to do it right.”
Jude shut off the water while Felix grabbed two towels off the rack. Neither of them spent much time drying off before falling onto the bed in a tangle of limbs and a symphony of moans.
Jude pinned Felix to the bed before he remembered Felix’s back. “Ace, I’m sorry.”
“Huh-uh,” Felix said, tightening his legs around Jude’s waist when he tried to roll off. “I want you just like this.”
Jude started to protest until Felix latched his mouth on to the spot that drove the big man nuts. Felix continued to suck, lick, and bite Jude’s neck while Jude stretched Felix’s ass with lubed fingers.
Then Jude rolled on a condom and repositioned himself between Felix’s legs. He paused after breaching the first ring of muscles to allow Felix time to adjust. Instead of kissing him like he normally would, Jude hovered over his mouth.
“Say it again,” Jude whispered.
