Page 68 of Love Always, Nova Black
All eyes were on us.
“Nova, chill!” Jarell scolded. “What the hell is your problem?”
“No, the question is what the hell ishisproblem?” I gave Jayson another hard shove. “How dare you bring another bitch to my family’s home and parade her around like it’s the thing to do?”
“You have a lot of nerve. Aren’t you parading your new boy toy around like we’re not still married?”
“Don’t do that? Don’t act like you have the right to put me in my place about what I do.”
“Clearly, I do. You’re still my wife.”
“Oh, and we both know why that is.”
Dropping his head, he sighed. “Nova, can we please go somewhere and talk? I don’t want to do this here.”
“Then stop showing up in places that you don’t belong.”
“Look—”
“What are you doing?” His girlfriend spat. “You don’t need to talk to her.”
Frustrated, Jayson scrubbed his hand over his face. “Ashlynn, go get in the car.”
“Yeah, hoe, go get in the car,” Kendra chimed in.
“Hoe?”
“That’s what the fuck I said. Do you need me to speak a little slower? You look slow. Hey, Jayson, is that what you’re interested in now…slow bitches?”
Unable to hold my composure, I chuckled a bit.
“Did she just call me a bitch?”
“I sure did. Are you going to do something about it?” Kendra questioned as she folded her arms over her chest.
Snatching the girl up before she could even think about moving any closer, Jayson said, “Take your ass to the car and let me deal with this.”
“But Jayson—”
‘Go!”
Just like a little puppy, she lowered her head and did as she was told.
I shook my head,so this is the kind of shit he likes? I hope like hell I never looked that sad.
Turning back towards me, he said, “Nova—”
“I’m not interested in talking to you. I’ve made that very clear.” I turned back to face my aunt, my mind still blown by the fact that she allowed this to happen. “You don’t give a damn about my feelings, huh?”
“Sweetheart, of course, I care about your feelings.”
“I can’t tell. Of all the things you could do to me, you agreed to let him come here and you agreed to let him bring some random bitch. That shit’s not cool at all.”
“She didn’t invite him here,” Jarell stepped in. “I did.”
“What? Why?” I asked.
“At the end of the day, Jayson’s my boy. He’s been a part of this family for a minute. Just because he made a mistake doesn’t mean we all have to punish him for it. Besides, I’m sure you weren’t perfect in your marriage either.”
