Page 67 of Love Always, Nova Black
“Babe, go use the bathroom. I’ll be fine.”
Closing my eyes, I nodded and then made my way to the bathroom. Considering how bad I had to pee, I was hating that I had to travel so far from the kitchen just to go. My aunt’s hallway felt like a runway at a fashion show. The shit was never-ending, and to make matters worse, someone was already in there when I got to the door.
“I’ll be out in a sec,” a soft voice said.
It wasn’t one that I recognized, but that wasn’t out of the ordinary. My aunt knew people all over town, and she loved feeding the neighborhood.
When the door finally opened, I was met with a woman that looked as though she might have been a few years younger than me. She was petite, cute, and had a nice little pixie cut that I would rock if I wasn’t so convinced that my head was too big.
“Excuse me,” I said, moving past her to walk into the bathroom.
“Nova?” she said her eyes narrowing at me.
“I’m sorry, do I know you?”
“No, but you’re Nova, right?”
“Yes, I am.”
“Well, I know you,” she replied.
“Oh, really? Have we met somewhere before?”
“No, but I did want to relay a little message while we’re both standing here.”
The sauciness in her tone made me pause for a second. Clearing my throat, I said, “What message is that?”
“Just sign the divorce papers.”
Unsure if I’d heard her right, I leaned in a little more. “I’m sorry, what did you say?”
“I said, sign the divorce papers.”
Immediately, the need to use the bathroom had disappeared and all I could think about was putting my hand around this chick’s neck.
“Who the fuck are you?”
“I’m Jayson’s girlfriend.”
My eyes widened. “You’re what?”
“Jayson’s girlfriend…and I might be his wife one day if you ever decide to stop dragging this divorce shit out.”
“You’re joking, right? Is that what he told you?”
Furious, I didn’t even give her a chance to answer. Instead, I forced her out of the way and headed back towards the living room.
My aunt was the first person I saw. “Really, Aunt Patricia?Really?”
“What did I do?” she replied, confusion resting on her face as I stormed past her and forced the patio door open.
I didn’t have time to go back and forth with her about her piss poor choices. My only concern was confronting Jayson. I didn’t know what was worse, the fact that he had wormed his way into my family’s house again, or the fact that he’d lied to this bitch and brought her to the barbecue. Either way, I wasn’t going to stand for it. Someone was getting their asses handed to them, and that someone was going to be Jayson.

Nova
“You lying asshole,” I called out while shoving Jayson as hard as I could.
