Page 36 of Love Always, Nova Black
“Fine. Don’t forget.”
“I won’t,” I quickly said before ending the call and taking a deep breath.
When I made it in front of Don’s door, I took a few more deep breaths and even said a little prayer. At this point, I was more than sure I was being extra dramatic.
Bringing my cell back to eye view, I said, “Maybe I should call him first.”
Then, it hit me…he’s not answering your damn calls, Nova.
Duh.
Shaking my head, I pounded my fist against the door, but not too loud, just in case Dakota was taking a nap or something. Itwaslate in the afternoon.
Laughing, Don opened the door. But the moment his eyes landed on me, his smile faded.
“Wow, don’t look so happy to see me,” I said in a sarcastic tone.
“Um…Nova, what are you doing here?”
I glanced over his shoulder.
As my eyes lingered on the green-eyed woman standing in his kitchen wearing one of his t-shirts, Izzy’s fake story vanished from my mind. Suddenly, my anxiety turned into anger.
Pushing the door open, I said, “Who is this?”
Confused, the woman looked at me and back at him.
But Don didn’t respond.
He was a lot more caught off guard than I expected.
Still waiting for an answer, the woman folded her arms over her chest. “Is there something I need to know, Don? I thought you were single.”
“I am.”
“Are you sure? Because the way this woman just barged in here and started shooting death stares at me doesn’t make it seem like you’re single.”
“Trust me, I am. This is my friend, Nova. Apparently, she decided to just popup out of nowhere,” he said before looking back at me. “Again, what are you doing here? And why are you acting like this?”
I heard his words, but for some reason, I couldn’t bring myself to respond.
What the fuck is happening?
Finally snapping back to reality, I said, “I have to go.”
“What?”
“I have to go.” Without saying another word, I turned away from him and stormed down the hall. I couldn’t afford to waste another second making a fool out of myself.

Don
Is this really happening?
That was the only question that raced through my mind as I watched Nova storm down the hallway of my building.
Refusing to let her get away, I hurried after her and spun her around to face me. “Are you serious right now?”
