“My brother and I own a stage design company. He builds the stage and I’m the light show guy.”

My eyes widen in surprise. “Wow! I’ve never met anyone who does that as a profession.”

“When it comes to concerts, people are excited about seeing their favorite artists and musicians live. Most don’t think twice about the group of invisible people working in the background to make them look good on stage.”

“You’re right,” I nod in agreement. “I’ve been to a number of concerts and I’ve been dazzled by the elaborate stage and light show, but I don’t think it ever occurred to me to Google to find out who was behind the creations,” I admit.

“Few people Google us. That said, a concert wouldn’t be a concert without our contribution.”

“You’re right again,” I note.

“I tend to do that a lot.”

I swat his chest. “Cocky much?”

“You already know the answer to that, sweetness.”

I smile at him.

He tells me all about his brother Linc and how he acquired his company. He also tells me about their employees and contract tradesmen and tradeswomen who help bring their creation to life.

I’m thoroughly impressed.

“That’s absolutely fascinating,” I exclaim. “Is that why you get to hang out with rock gods like the members of Random Misconception?”

“Linc and I designed the stage for their farewell concert, and we’ve been tight ever since,” he explains.

“You’ve accomplished so much at such a young age,” I observe.

“Our father and uncles paved the way for us. I’ve been working part-time in industry since I was sixteen. Same for Linc. I never saw myself doing anything else.”

“So you don’t have any musical talent?”

“I didn’t say that.”

“You sing?”

“No.”

“You’re a musician?”

“Wrong again.”

“I give up.”

“I rap.”

That’s the last thing I expected. “Seriously?”

“Yes, seriously.”

“Are you any good?” I ask.

“Thanks for the vote of confidence, sugar plum.”

“I didn’t mean it like that,” I rush out.

“Sure,” he shoots an incredulous sideways glance at me.
