The bouquet sails through the air.
That's enough to get the crowd of women into a mad frenzy. They tackle each other. Hands claw the air, fingers curling, begging as they attempt to grab the coveted prize. A redhead intent on snagging it first, leaps into the air like a baller, just to bump into an eager brunette, who bumps into Sydney, who bumps into a blonde with short hair, leaving the field wide open. Dominika steps aside to avoid the train wreck, just to catch the bouquet when it collides with her chest.
Talk about strange twist of fate.
She stares down at the bouquet in her hands, dumbfounded.
Big questioning blue eyes search the crowd for an answer. Then, they meet mine. Dom’s gaze bounces from the flowers up to my stunned eyes. She does that a few times.
She’s completely bewildered.
It’s like she genuinely doesn’t know what to do with the flowers she’s holding.
Then, her gaze slides past me.
Shock is replaced with disappointment. No, dejection.
Curious, I turn around.
Rod is standing near the piano, staring at her, his expression unreadable. Dominika isn’t looking at her best friend. Her eyes are pinned on the tall, rail thin blonde wearing a revealing silver dress and ridiculously high heels. She arrived with my fuck up of a cousin, Dean. She’s his flavor of the day.
Speaking of the idiot, where is he?
I peruse the living room, looking for him. His drunk ass must be outside chain-smoking. By the way his date is hanging off Rod’s shoulder, I’m willing to bet she isn’t interested in my cousin’s cock for tonight. The blonde must clue in on the fact she’s stepping on toes because her chest protrudes, proud like a peacock. The way her mouth quirks in a devious smirk says it all. The tension in the room is so tight, it’s like all the air has been sucked out of it. If Dom’s blue eyes were lasers, the blonde would be six feet under.
With an angry twirl, Dom turns on her heel and rushes to the garden, the bouquet still clenched to her chest.
I shake my head at Rod.
He gives me a,What the fuck?look.
“Rod is blind,” Jules says in a soft voice from beside me.
I glance over at her.
“He is,” I agree. The idiot is fucking his way through LA, looking for something that’s right under his nose.Dumb ass.
I grab Jules in my arms.
“Thank God I was smart enough to marry you. I’m never letting you get away, Mrs. Aldridge,” I whisper close to her ear.
“I wouldn’t want it any other way, Mr. Aldridge.”
