CHAPTER36
Dominika
Epilogue Two
Istomp out of theliving room in a hell-bent fury, leaving the embarrassing scene behind.
Not one to draw attention to myself—let alone cause a scene—I had to get out of there before I dissolved into tears or bitch-slapped that stupid, desperate blonde vying for Rod’s cock. For God’s sake, she arrived with Levi’s cousin Dean and from the way they were making out earlier, it’s clear they have a thing going on. Now she’s moved on to another man. How skanky can you be?
I’m so outraged, I’m surprised fume isn’t shooting out of my nostrils.
Same shit. Different event.
I really should know better.
Silly Dom. A tiger never changes his stripes.
I was having a pretty good time until the blonde decided to latch onto my best friend like a chimp latches on to its mother.
Why do I even care who Rod fucks?
Dammit!
I hate these conflicting waves of emotions that consume me every time I’m around my best friend these days.
Rushing on my heels, I make my way to Larkin’s lush gardens in the hopes of losing myself for a few long minutes until I regain my composure.
“Dominika! Wait!” a voice calls after me.
I stop in my tracks and turn around.
Sydney, Jules’s best friend, comes running after me.
She stops right in front of me and smiles wide.
I respond by lifting the corner of my lips, but the smile never touches my bruised heart.
“You promised you’d hook me up with the secondhand shop where you bought this amazing dress,” she waves a finger up and down the length of my body.
I suspect that’s not why she came running after me, but I play along. “Absolutely. I will.”
“Good,” she nods. “Renting the runway is great, but if you can own it without it requiring a trust fund, that’s even better,” she laughs.
“This boutique is a new to me shop, but like I said, they have a great selection for girls like us.”
In a city where Amazonians seem to reign supreme, it’s comforting to be standing in front of a woman who’s as petite as I am.
She gives me another onceover. “I’m super excited.”
For Jules and Levi’s big day, I deviated from my usual low-key fashion, which tends to be a monochromatic palette of black and white shades. I selected a gorgeous gunmetal dress that elongates my short body. The sequins are a bit more dazzle than what I gravitate towards, but it’s tasteful and it doesn’t reveal too much. I was so pleased with my fashion selection until Dean showed up with his date who so happens to be wearing an in-your-face silver dress that leaves nothing to the imagination.
What a pleasant coincidence. Not!
“You’re getting some air?” Sydney asks.
I’m simmering down so I don’t go off like a damn pressure cooker. “You could say that.”
“Great catch, by the way,” her blue eyes shine bright with malice. “You should’ve stayed a little longer for everyone to cheer you on.”
