Dear Fenn,
I was wondering—what do forest fays do all day, aside from granting wishes to us feeble humans? Do you flit from tree to tree with the birds? Can you change your shape, like the fairytales say? What is your favourite colour? Your favourite food?
As for me, I adore violets. But I already told you that. Did you know they can be eaten? I’ve heard candied violets are sweet, though terrible for one’s teeth. I should love to try them someday. My favourite colour is purple (and coquelicot). My favourite food is crumpets.
I am deathly afraid of horses—a horse bit me on the shoulder once, and I haven’t liked them since. Do you have fears, too?
Sincerely yours,
Little Wren
P.S. I made you some mittens! They aren’t perfect—I unpicked an old scarf of Papa’s to make them, and the wool is a bit scratchy. But they’re warm, I hope. Tell me you like them?
My dear Little Wren,
Thank you for the mittens! They are a bit small, so I must fold my fingers to wear them, but they are warm, and when the winter winds bite, I walk through the forest with your mittens on and my thoughts are of you.
To answer your questions: my favourite colour is moss green. My favourite food is mince pie, and I despise turnips— they are ghastly things. And yes, I do have a fear: the dark. Even forest fays are not immune to shadows.
Sincerely,
Fenn
P.S. Because your letter made me smile, I'll grant you another wish. What will you wish for this time?
