Sebastian and Gastonhad ended up being the least of our concerns.
Darius had still attended the dinner to keep up formalities—which had turned out to be a positive experience because Sebastian had shown admirable respect throughout the meal. Apparently, all he’d wanted was permission to build a new estate on the coast within my region.
I’d promptly granted the approval via a text message, then returned to reviewing the logs with Calina.
There were ample research reports, many of which were tied to the studies of Bunker 47. But there was also a series of videos featuring Lilith at various points throughout the last one hundred seventeen years.
Once I’d finished reviewing the lab results—and determining Cam’s name wasn’t listed in any of them—I’d switched focus to Lilith’s videos.
They were reports of each year, which didn’t really interest me. I’d lived through each Blood Day, therefore making myself very aware of their results.
But her voice in the videos had captivated me, as well as her frequent address ofmy liege. These videos were meant for someone she’d considered to be her superior, andthatdetail fascinated me.
She’d also spoken with a reverence I hadn’t heard in over a century, suggesting she’d been talking to Michael.
Except he was dead.
“She’s bloody insane,” Darius had said after the third video.
I’d wanted to agree with him, but the strategic part of me couldn’t. Because everything she’d set in motion was too brilliant to be crafted by someone of an unsound mind.
So I’d spent my time over the last two days reviewing as many of the logs as I could.
Damien had set up some sort of backdoor connection at the server farm, allowing us to scan all the documents housed within the facility. It was easier than attempting to download them all and find adequate storage elsewhere.
Calina understood it better than I did since she’d helped him with the configuration.
And in consistent fashion, she’d continued to impress me during our time in Jace City.
Just as she did now as she sat beside me on the jet.
She wore one of her new dresses, the navy fabric revealing every curve of her beautiful form. It took serious restraint not to pull her into my lap and take advantage of her low neckline. That I’d barely touched her these last two days, my focus having been on the files Damien had sent over for review, didn’t help matters.
The only time I’d taken a break was when a boutique owner had arrived with a rack of dresses for Calina to try on. I’d fallen into my role with ease as I’d dictated what I wanted Calina to wear, and she’d admirably played the part of submissive human.
As soon as the boutique owner had left, Calina had returned to her confident self and had gone right back to skimming the logs with me. I’d almost fucked her on the desk in response, but she’d discovered a log regarding adeath protocolfrom Lilith that had immediately distracted me.
She’d hypothesized that someone might be watching these right now, mainly because the video started with her saying the recording would play if and when something went horribly wrong. Which Calina had translated to mean Lilith’s death.
After watching the log with her, I’d agreed.
The one we observed now was in relation to an escalation protocol. I’d pulled it up onto a movie screen in the executive cabin of my jet, thus allowing Darius and Juliet to watch with us from their chairs.
“So where are the attachments?” Darius asked when the video ended.
“There are none,” Calina replied, the laptop controlling the video in her lap. “I’m guessing either they’re in a different location, or Lilith housed them in another server farm.”
