I smiled faintly, wondering if he would still think so if he knew what I had done months earlier with my ex.
Not so lucky now, huh?
I was going to hell. That was for sure. I noticed Julian gazing at me, waiting for me to answer him.
“Sorry, what?”
His handsome face broke into a smile as he tugged me into his arms.
“Babe, what’s wrong? Is it the wedding?”
His brow furrowed with concern as I tried not to worry him further, instead kissing his lips softly.
“I’m alright. It’s just a stressful time. Shall we have some wine?”
I smiled as I turned to the kitchen, pulling out a chilled bottle of Australian goodness. The TV turned on in the distance, and the familiarity comforted me. My mother had organised my final dress fitting this weekend, yet I couldn’t help but remember Evan’s words.
‘Don’tmarry him.’
I had made a decision.
I took a deep slug of my wine, realising my hand was shaking. I’d met Julian through an agency whilst looking for work, and one thing had led to another. He was funny and charming, not to mention gorgeous.
But he didn’t ignite the fire in my belly that Evan had.
I needed to forget about Evan.
I clutched the glasses, forcing a smile on my face as I joined him on the sofa.
Julian’s arm slid easily around me, and I snuggled against him as I continued to gulp my wine. He stroked my arm, and I tried to focus on what was on the screen. Unfortunately, it was some crime programme that caused my anxiety to rocket, so I found my mind drifting again.
‘God, I’ve missed you.’
“I can’t wait to call you Mrs Seymour,” Julian murmured into my hair, dragging me back to reality with a guilty bump.
“Me too,” I agreed, draining my wine quickly.
Julian had barely touched his, so when I moved to refill mine, he stopped me, standing up to get it for me. He winked, gazing at me long enough so that I knew he was horny.
Less than two hours later, he was on top of me, his breath hot on my neck as he pounded away above me. I made the right noises, and in the end, he flipped me over, and I satisfied myself, timing it perfectly with his orgasm.
“Fuck Jain.” He groaned, lying beside me as we caught our breath. “Don’t forget that pill.”
I let out a laugh, shaking my head as I headed towards the loo.
I didn’t want to get pregnant, hell no.
I was barely twenty-three.
I brushed my teeth, taking my time so that he would be asleep when I walked back into our room. Then, I took my pill and walked back into the now dark bedroom.
Julian’s soft snores greeted me, and I sighed, climbing into bed beside him. His arm wrapped around me, pulling me close to him as I allowed myself to relax.
His rhythmic breathing relaxed me, and I finally drifted off to sleep, with those green eyes from my past haunting my dreams as they always did.
The following day Julian was incredibly energetic, and round two was much better than the previous night. I was almost late for work, but it was worth it.
“I find out today, babe,” Julian reminded me, sipping his coffee as he stared out of the window and onto the street.
