CHAPTERFIFTY-NINE

The restof our week in Yellowstone and the Tetons passes too fast for my liking. We’re not doing any heavy-duty hiking in the backcountry because that makes my detail exceptionally nervous. It also worries Jordan and Leo that I’ll put too much stress on Duck and rub my stump raw.

That means our stops focus mostly on the more developed features, where boardwalks or well-groomed trails make walks easy for me.

But we spend plenty of time outside. We get to see the wolves, and watch Old Faithful blow. We have picnic lunches out of the sight of other tourists during the day, and at picnic dinners at night when we can watch the breathtaking expanse of the Milky Way stretched above us.

Unfortunately, Leo isn’t comfortable with us attempting outdoor sex on this trip.

Darn it.

I mean, he and I could get away with it and cause little more than a tittering scandal that wouldn’t even hold the news cycles’ attention for a full twelve hours. But if we added Jordan to the permutation, there would be an impeachment investigation awaiting me upon our return to DC, and none of us want to risk that.

And neither Leo nor I want to exclude Jordan from a damned thing.

There’s one more surprise, and that’s the arrival of both sets of parents two days before the end of our trip, which makes everything perfect. I love being able to witness Mom and Dad’s wonder first-hand as we explore the boardwalks in various geyser basins.
