Chapter forty-six

Aren't you Jumping the Gun a Little?

Michelle

S o, what do you have planned for this weekend?” I ask Dane from the passenger seat of his truck.

“If I told you, it wouldn’t be a surprise.” He smiles.

While Ronnie booked our hotel room for the next two nights, Dane insisted on doing the rest of the planning. We are going to Portland, which is his hometown, so he said he had some good ideas.

“Does it involve getting naked?” I ask.

He laughs and runs his hand over his beard. “That’s definitely on the list…multiple times.”

“And?”

“And that’s all I’m going to tell you.”

“You don’t play fair.”

He leans over to whisper, “If you don’t quit asking, I’m going to edge you later until you lose your mind.”

“Okay, okay, I’ll quit asking.”

“Good girl.”

He better be saying that later while we are naked.

I look over at him. I just stare. He’s such a man with his broad shoulders and thick beard. I don’t think I’ve ever been more attracted to a man than I am to him. Maybe it’s because he really is that good-looking or that I know how good he is in the bedroom.

Or maybe it’s that I’m falling for him.

Hard.

I’ve never known what it’s like to be in love. Back in high school, I thought I loved Danny, but obviously, I didn’t. I’m not sure exactly what it feels like.

But if I had to guess, I’d say it’s how I feel about Dane. This man not only has done so much for me but also done so much for my daughter. I’ve never had anyone care for me like this. For once, I’m not worried about him hurting me.

He catches me staring. “What? Do I have something in my beard?”

“No,” I say, trying not to sound crazy. “I just like looking at you.”

He reaches over to take my hand in his and then brings it to his mouth to kiss it. “Back at you, baby.”

As we get closer to our destination, Dane starts showing me things around Portland that mean something to him. We drive past where his old school that he taught at used to be. After the fire, they tore the whole thing down, which I think broke Dane’s heart a little bit.

Then, he points out his childhood home. “See the handprints on the stairs?” He asks.

I nod.

“My sister and I did that. Our dad was on active duty overseas, so it was just us with our mom. We figured she’d be mad as hell, but she just laughed and said it gave our house character.

When Dad finally did come home, Mom told him she had us do it.

He thought the whole thing was her idea, and he never brought it up again. ”

Still holding hands, I rub my thumb over his. “You don’t talk about your mom much. What was she like?”

He thinks for a moment like he’s getting lost in a memory.

“She was pretty awesome. Most of the time, Dad was overseas, so she was usually doing it all by herself. But you’d never know it.

She made it look effortless. I know it wasn’t, but she never let us know any different.

She loved with her whole heart, and she was the exact opposite of my dad.

He was all business and a hard-ass, but she brought out his softer side.

When she died, it was harder on him than he would admit.

But she made him promise to relax once in a while and have some fun. ”

“Did he listen?” I ask.

He smiles at me. “Not until he had a massive heart attack. That chilled him out quite a bit.”

Before I know it, we are pulling into the large hotel that Ronnie booked for us.

Dane pulls up out front, and I get out to go check us in. When I get to the desk and give them the reservation number. The woman types a few things before smiling at me.

“Welcome, Mrs. Miller.”

I’m about to correct her when she says, “It looks like we have you in our honeymoon suite. Congratulations!”

Say what?

I’m about to question it, but I quickly realize it’s probably not a mistake. This has Ronnie written all over it.

I listen to the lady’s speech before she hands me the keys, and I can walk away. When I’m out of earshot, I immediately call my sister.

“Hey, sister,” she answers. “Are you already bored? Want me to send you a list of sex things to try?”

Part of me wants to see what would be on her list, but now is not the time.

“Honeymoon suite?” I question. “Aren’t you jumping the gun a little?”

“Okay, calm down. You know how I feel about marriage. It’s not like I’m trying to sell you off for some goats. The honeymoon suite happened to be the nicest room they had available. Plus, I’m sure they’ll kiss your ass while you’re there. Just have fun. Eve’s coming. I have to go.”

She quickly hangs up.

When I slide back in the truck, I look at Dane. “Don’t freak out.”

“Okay?”

“My sister booked us the honeymoon suite. She said it was only because it was the nicest room they had available. I promise I’m not trying anything funny here.”

He just says, “Well, that was nice of her.”

“You’re not upset?” I ask. “Or freaked out?”

“Why would I be? I get to pretend you’re my wife for the weekend. I’m going to enjoy it.” He flashes a sexy smile.

“We need to get upstairs,” I tell him. “Before we are screwing in the parking lot.”

***

A few minutes later, we walk through the door to our suite. And holy shit, it’s beautiful. The lavish area has a giant plush bed, a kitchenette, a living area with comfortable couches, and even a heart-shaped jacuzzi tub.

“Wow,” I say.

“Remind me to send a thank you note to your sister.”

Dane is barely able to set our bags down before I’m in his arms. While the room is great, it has been far too long since I’ve felt his touch. Phone sex and dirty texts only get you so far. I need the real thing.

He picks me up like I weigh nothing, and I wrap my legs around his waist. I know that right now, this isn’t going to be slow and sweet. We both need a quick, hard fuck.

Period.

***

After we bang one out, we decide to clean up and get ready for dinner. I open my suitcase and see that along with the things I packed, Ronnie included a few goodies.

That little sneak.

When she came to pick up Eve, she insisted she needed something from my room. Now I see what she was doing.

In my bag, there’s a vibrator and some very naughty lingerie.

Oh, Ronnie.

For dinner, I opt for a sundress and a sweater. Sure, my legs may get chilly, but I’ll feel cute.

When I exit the bathroom, Dane looks at me and smiles.

Walking over to me, he sets his hands on my hips. “Do you realize how incredible you look?”

“I think you’ll have to show me.”

“If I do that, we may never make it to the restaurant.”

“Hmm,” I say, pondering if we should just stay. But I know Dane planned this, and I don’t want him to think I don’t appreciate it. “Let’s go.”

We walk out of the room and head downstairs. On the way, I see him looking at me.

“What’s wrong?” I ask.

“I’m wondering if it was a good idea to leave the hotel with you wearing that dress.”

“I thought I looked cute.”

“You look amazing,” he tells me. “Just please don’t bend over. I don’t want anyone seeing what’s mine.”

I can’t help but smile.

“Yours?” I ask, still grinning.

He grabs me by the waist and pulls me, so I’m pressed against him. “Yes. Mine. Is that okay with you?”

He presses his lips against mine until the elevator doors open.

“I like hearing you call me yours,” I say.

“Well, you better get used to it.”

We walk out of the elevator through the lobby and out the front door–all while holding hands.

This right here?

This is perfect.
