Page 29 of Her Destined Alpha (Alpha #3)
Rayhan
I didn’t know what she tried to pull there, but it didn’t work, and it shocked her.
If she thought I would leave her, then she had another thing coming.
There was no way I would ever leave her behind…
but it warmed my heart that she was at least worried about me.
I wanted to tease her about it, but it was not the time.
Maybe I should shift, and she could ride me. Okay, fuck, that just led to a bad image. At a time like this, was my mind seriously going there? Yup, it was. Shit.
I knew she was capable of hiding herself, but she was refusing to listen.
“Rayhan, please… go,” she whispered. I could sense them too. There were three.
“Never. I’m telling you to go, Kitten. Why don’t you listen to me?” I murmured, pulling her into a side alleyway, trying to listen for the witches.
Just as she whispered a spell, I felt something wrap around us. She placed a finger on my lips before I could even speak, and I got that she wanted me to stay silent.
“So, she’s mixing with the mutts?” a cold voice asked.
“I’m sure I smelled one,” a second scornful voice answered. “Maybe they’ve taught her a lesson…” Anger filled me, but Delsanra stayed calm.
“Oh, who knows… she’s close. I bet she’s trying to hide… search!” The voice was no different to me, yet it made her heart thunder. I could see the anxiety, fear, and panic on her face as she clutched onto me tightly.
“What is it?” I asked, ever so quietly.
She looked up at me but simply shook her head.
The anguish in her eyes made my heart ache, and I wrapped my arms around her tightly.
I hoped the spell she performed was strong enough to hold…
but I wished she had left and protected herself.
Her heart was racing disturbingly fast, and I wondered if it was the fear or the use of power.
The witches were strong; their auras seeped into every crevasse and corner around us. The sound of their heels echoing on the cobbled streets rang in our ears despite the downpour. They stepped out of the darkness as one… all three turning towards the alley we were in.
Shit … somehow, they knew. All three were dressed in black. From their pants to their high neck tops, the band on their arms told me they were no small enemy.
The smell of blood filled my nose. I looked down sharply. Fuck, she was bleeding from her nose.
“Shit…” I muttered. Worry rushed through me as I wiped it away.
“Rayhan, please run…” she whispered pleadingly.
No. Sorry.
I felt the force that had encircled us dissipate.
“Nice trick,” the middle one said coldly.
Her eyes fixed straight on us, and I knew that whatever spell Delsanra had performed had gone.
A cold smirk crossed her face. Her long blond hair was pulled into a high ponytail, and her blue eyes were fixed on Delsanra, but what irked me was the unbridled hatred in them.
“It’s been a long time, sister…” the woman said icily.
My eyes snapped to Delsanra, suddenly realising why those blue eyes seemed somewhat familiar. If it weren’t for the way Delsanra had tensed, I would have thought it was just a form of greeting... but the hatred and tension between them were suffocating.
Even if they were blood, it was clear they were enemies.
I didn’t ponder on it for long, assessing the situation. Right then, I was at a disadvantage. Three witches…
“You are no sister of mine,” Delsanra said coldly, trying to pull away from me. I let go slightly but stood close to her. I could feel her aura; although it was suppressed, she was still strong, but even I could tell in her current state that she was weaker than the three before us.
“The Coven summons you, Daughter of Darkness,” the woman with ebony skin and long braids spoke. Her sharp eyes pierced into mine before flitting between the both of us. “Let her come with us, son of Selene, and we will let you live.”
Something told me this woman wasn’t as bad as the one in the middle.
“I want nothing to do with the Coven,” Delsanra said quietly. I could hear her heart racing.
“You have no choice,” the woman said, looking at her two companions. “Bind her, but do not hurt her.”
Her eyes flashed, and a blinding beacon of lightning came straight at us.
I jumped to the side, pushing Delsanra behind me protectively.
There was no way in hell I was going to let them take her!
We moved back as another blast of power rushed toward us, forcing us to retreat.
I was about to shift when she grabbed the hem of my shirt and pulled me close.
“We won’t survive if we fight them.” Her words were so faint that I barely heard them. “Please.”
“Just kill the mutt!” The blond screeched.
I felt Delsanra rest her head against my back, sending a rush of pleasure through me. I frowned, my eyes blazing. Time to shift and teach these witches that no one messes with my mate . I tried to move, but her grip tightened, and she began whispering a spell, her aura swirling around her.
“Del…” I felt my body go heavy. I couldn’t speak. My heart was slowing down… what… was… this?
“Live… and forget me…” I looked at her with confusion in my eyes. She mouthed those words as I fell face forward to the ground.
Shit… she used the last of her abilities to fucking spell me? I felt the weight of the spell force my eyes shut as I lay in the puddle of water from the downpour.
“Oh, you killed him?” her sister asked mockingly. I couldn’t move, but their voices rang in my head.
“One less wolf is better for us all.”
“He isn’t dead… she’s-”
“He isn’t a part of this. I will come with you without putting up a fight if you let him go,” Delsanra said coldly.
“Wise choice, daughter of darkness,” the third witch added.
“I still think we should fry him, just in case.”
“No. From his aura, it’s clear he is an alpha wolf. It’s best not to anger any pack right now. Come, we have achieved our purpose.”
No … All I could think of was how she had willingly given herself up because of me… in order to save my damn life... I should have let her leave town.
Delsanra … I struggled against the spell that was weighing down on me, but there was nothing I could do. She was leaving me, and I was here, uselessly just letting it happen.
I will find you, Kitten. I won’t let anything happen to you… that’s my fucking promise to you.
The pain in my chest was suffocating me more than anything else. I had promised to protect her, but she had been the one to protect me… Fuck .
