Page 23 of Her Destined Alpha (Alpha #3)

I hadn’t been able to sleep last night thanks to my wolf, who had been elated since Delsanra hugged him. Despite the fact that she didn’t have a wolf, it didn’t seem to bother him at all; he was clearly just happy to have his mate.
The other reason was the fact that she clearly didn’t hate wolves; it was the human side of werewolves she hated.
That hurt, but I couldn’t blame her. It was my kind who had hurt her, not werewolves in wolf form.
.. but for the first time in my life, I was jealous of my wolf, and, although I could sense his comfort, I could also sense the smugness he was feeling.
That was irritating... Stupid cocky alpha wolf .
I swore if he didn’t cut his crap about her liking him, I wouldn’t allow him to see her again.
But… she had liked it. I had felt her calmness around him.
I had gotten up early before going for a run, grabbing breakfast, and then hitting the gym for a bit. I had insisted on taking Delsanra to work, which she agreed to after a bout of stubbornness.
I had showered and then gotten dressed in black pants and a white button-down shirt, which I left a few buttons open at the top of and had paired with smart black shoes plus a belt. My hair was tied back, and I was wearing a leather jacket.
I couldn’t believe what I was doing, but if it meant I got to spend time with her, then I’d do it happily. I wasn’t sure how she was going to take it, but... hopefully, she wouldn’t get too mad.
“You didn’t need to bring me to work,” she said, looking over at me.
Her hair was up in a neat bun, but despite that, a few strands framed her face. She looked as beautiful as ever, wearing a simple white blouse that was fitted on her breasts and a black skirt that stopped just above her knees, paired with black tights and black shoes.
I followed her to the door and, reaching past her, pushed it open and allowed her to enter first.
“I was coming here anyway,” I replied.
“Ah, Ana, glad to see you’re feeling better!” the manager, Coleen, said in approval before she looked me over. “My... you will be drawing in the customers today…”
“Excuse me?” Delsanra asked, confused, glancing back at me.
“Your boyfriend offered to work here as he knew how short on staff we were,” Coleen said.
“Boyfriend…”
“Yes, you kept him hidden, and quite a handsome one at that.” I saw Delsanra’s face pale before she took in what I was wearing as if it was the first time she was seeing it.
“No way. Excuse us... we need to talk,” she said to Coleen before taking my arm and tugging me to the side where the bathroom was. I let her pull me along, despite my kitten not having much strength. “What are you doing?”
“I applied here. Apparently some guy’s on leave, and I said I don’t mind waiting tables with you,” I said, taking my jacket off.
“No, this was supposed to be- urgh! Why are you so annoying? And why are you dressed like you’re going to a business meeting?”
“What do you mean? This is casual,” I said, tugging at my open buttoned shirt.
“No, it isn’t. You look…”
“Sexy? Hot? Appealing, Kitten? Tell me,” I murmured, leaning towards her.
“Too much!” Too much? Okay, that was not how I’d describe myself.
“I’m dressed casual-smart, Kitten.”
“Well, you stand out.” She frowned in displeasure. I smirked in satisfaction.
“Us Rossis have that gene,” I said arrogantly. She rolled her eyes.
“Fine, good luck,” she said, adjusting her own shirt.
That was a quick change, I guess she accepted it . She shook her head, walking off, and I wouldn’t deny that my eyes were fixed on that ass of hers. I liked her in skirts.
“Could we get another coke?”
“With some ice? It’s kinda hot in here.”
“Sure,” I said, walking off.
“Damn, he’s so fucking hot. Shall we ask for his number?”
“Fuck yeah, look at that.”
Now I know what she meant about good luck. The place was packed with women, and everyone seemed to know it was because of me. Where the staff had looked excited about the rush, they were beginning to look disgruntled.
I also hated the fact that my kitten was rushing around taking order after order. We hadn’t gotten a break since morning, and I had to admit it was not my type of job. I wasn’t used to serving others; heck, I was an alpha, and the only people I would usually serve were my mate and mother.
Although I usually wouldn’t mind the attention from all the gorgeous women, there was only one woman whose attention I wanted. Delsanra’s. One who wasn’t even looking at me.
“Table ten, sweet cheeks,” Gwen said with a big smile, although she had been a bit hostile to start with, something about the other day I came in here.
When I said Delsanra and I had an argument and that that was the reason for her annoyance, she took an instant liking to me the moment Delsanra had begrudgingly nodded.
Table ten was the most annoying. It consisted of a bunch of young women who were flirting openly, and although I kept a smile on my face, I was getting tired.
“Help me, Kitten,” I pleaded as she walked past me.
“No,” she said, glancing at the table.
Her mood had also gotten worse as the day went by, and I wondered if it was the extra work or if I was lucky enough to have made her jealous. It wasn’t the aim, but if it worked, then hey, why not?
“Please, baby?” She gave me a withering glare and stepped closer to me, motioning me to bend down.
“Call me that one more time, and I swear I will chop your sausage off, barbeque it, and force-feed it to you,” she said, making me internally flinch. Her eyes were full of a burning rage that made all my amusement vanish. She was pissed, and I had no idea what I had done.
“Hey, are you-”
“I’m working, don’t talk to me.” Turning, she stormed off.
“What the…”
“Oh, come on, handsome, do you really not know why she’s angry?” Donovan asked, passing me the tray.
“No,” I said, quietly watching Delsanra give a couple a small smile as she took their order.
“She’s jealous,” he chuckled.
Despite the fact that his words made my stomach somersault, I knew it couldn’t be the truth. I’d love it if she was, but the staff here thought we were a couple… when we weren’t. If Donovan knew that, he wouldn’t say she was jealous.
“Hm.” I didn’t say more as I got back to work.
“Mind if we get your number?” A pretty blond asked. She was probably one of the prettier women there, but still, nothing compared to my kitten.
“I’m taken,” I said with a slight smirk. “Heart and soul.”
“Oh, come on, I’m not asking you to commit,” she whispered, leaning in.
“No thanks,” I said firmly, my smile vanishing. I disliked pushy women. I began clearing the table. The other two women were simply watching me as the three exchanged looks.
“What about just coming out for some drinks when you’re done?” the redhead suggested, placing her hand on my arm.
Before I could even reply, I felt a powerful surge of energy swirl around us. My heart thundered at the sheer force, and it was then that I saw the cracks appearing in the window behind the table.
“Move!” I shouted, grabbing the two women who were closest to me. I pulled them from their seats before grabbing the third, turning, and shielding her just as the glass shattered. Shards flew everywhere as screams erupted in the diner.
