I mmy was going to commit murder.
And she knew just who she was going to murder.
Tobias and Jenner.
They were driving her insane. They’d arrived here five days ago and the only times she had been allowed out of this bed was to use the bathroom.
No more.
She was done.
Sure, she still had a sprained wrist and bruising. But she felt much better. Certainly well enough to get up and move around.
Even if all she got to do was sit on the front porch, it would be better than lying around in bed all the time.
Oh, they’d brought her things to do. She had coloring books, movies, card games, board games.
But there was only so much of that she could take. And could anyone really watch a movie without junk food?
Jenner was trying to kill her with all this healthy food. A Twizzler here and there never killed anyone.
Immy drew back the covers. She was supposed to be napping.
Right. How could she nap when she wasn’t tired?
Sneaking out of bed, she headed into the living area.
Hmm. Where were they?
Well, what did it matter? The good news was that they weren’t here to stop her. She grabbed a diet soda from the fridge and a blanket off the sofa and headed outside. It was the middle of the afternoon, but there was a definite chill in the air.
She sat on the rocking chair and drew the blanket around her. A sigh of pleasure left her as she took in her surroundings. She loved the mountain view here.
So beautiful.
So peaceful.
“So naughty.”
Wait. She didn’t think that.
Turning, she saw both of them standing behind her.
“Uh-oh,” she muttered.
“Uh-oh is right,” Jenner said as he moved in front of her to lean on the railing. Tobias walked over to her side. “What are you doing out of bed?”
“I’ve been in bed since we got here! I’m bored of bed.”
“You were supposed to be napping,” Tobias told her.
“I’m all napped out. I’m not tired. I need to get up and move around. The doctor said to take it easy, he didn’t say I had to be on bedrest for weeks.”
“Hmm,” Jenner said, rubbing his chin. “I guess if you’re really feeling good enough to be up and about?—”
“I am!” she said quickly.
“Then you’re also well enough to be punished for disobeying us.”
“Yep, I am . . . wait, what did you say?”
“When you’re naughty, you get punished,” Tobias said to her. “Unless you’re ill.”
Drat.
That wasn’t cool.
“And I do owe you another punishment,” Tobias said. “A letter to Papa for being naughty at the Little playground. Oh, and I believe a week without Twizzers and handbag M&Ms.”
Unicorn poop!
How dare he remember that!
“She’s also owed punishment for leaving the house without telling us,” Jenner said.
“And getting out of bed just now,” Tobias added.
“Hey! That doesn’t seem fair.”
“Why?” Jenner asked with a grin. “Because it’s you who is going to get their butt spanked?”
“You’re going to spank me? I just got out of bed! I was hit by a car.”
Both men’s faces darkened. Probably not smart to remind them of that.
Neither Lauren nor her car had turned up. Alejandro had even sent people to investigate. They hadn’t been able to locate Dev, either. Alejandro said there were rumors of a man called D’yavol, which was Russian for the Devil. But he doubted that Dev was that guy. Plus, he hadn’t had an accent.
So that was another dead end.
The guy the FBI had arrested, who’d confessed to being the new Deity, had killed himself after they’d started questioning him again.
Which wasn’t a good sign.
She knew that the guys were all on edge, wondering if anyone else was going to come after her or Cat or Maeve. The guy who’d killed Lauren was the biggest worry. That, and Isaiah, who no one had heard from.
But everything else seemed normal.
Well, a new sort of normal.
“Oh, we know that,” Tobias said darkly. “I think another few weeks. What do you think?”
“Yeah, a few weeks,” Jenner agreed.
“Until what?”
“Until you can be spanked,” Tobias told her. “And don’t worry, we’re keeping track.”
That was just rude.
“But we haven’t discussed the rules!”
“You know the rules,” Tobias told her.
“For our old relationship. Not this new one.”
“It’s pretty much the same, Twinkles,” Jenner told her. “No lying, you tell us if you feel ill, are in pain, need help, or if there’s anything you need.”
“No putting yourself down,” Tobias added. “Or putting yourself in danger, and no going anywhere without us.”
“There might be some more for your Little,” Jenner said. “Like no going into the kitchen when you’re in Little headspace.”
“Yes, true,” Tobias said.
Dear Lord.
She chewed on her lower lip nervously.
“There’s also a rule that you stay where we put you,” Tobias added. “Especially, say, when you’re put down for a nap.”
Drat.
“Of course, now that she’s feeling better, she could have her nap in her playroom,” Jenner suggested.
“True,” Tobias agreed.
“But I don’t have a playroom,” she said.
“Baby, what do you think we’ve been doing while you’ve been resting?” Jenner told her.
Tobias reached down and carefully picked her up, putting her on his hip. Jenner opened the door so he could carry her inside. He carried her down the hallway to one of the bedrooms.
Jenner opened the door again and Tobias put her down, leading her inside.
Her mouth dropped open. The bedroom was something from her dreams. The walls were painted a pale pink and had white decals of rabbits and owls on them.
There was a single bed with a white velvet headboard and a white, lacy bed cover. Next to it was a white changing table and bedside cabinet. As well as a huge rocking chair.
A toy kitchen sat against one wall, along with some storage cupboards.
As well as what looked to be a slime station.
“Slime! Immy make slime!” she cried.
Tobias gently lifted her into the air.
“Put Immy down! Put Immy down! Immy make slime!”
She wasn’t sure what it was that sent her fully into Little headspace, maybe the environment. Since the only other time she’d done this was at the playground.
And this room was even better since it was all hers.
“Immy won’t make slime until she hears the rules.”
“Rules schmules! Down with rules! Rules suck balls!” She giggled after that last one.
Jenner walked in front of her, his arms crossed over his chest. “Really? Rules suck balls?”
Another giggle escaped.
“There are rules, sassy brat,” Tobias told her. “You need to be careful with your sprained wrist for one.”
Pfft. It felt fine.
Well, it hurt. But it would be fine.
“The slime doesn’t leave this room,” Jenner added. “It’s not to be used in any Immy-jokes or pranks.”
“Hmm, I owe you some punishment for the peanut butter in my sheets,” Tobias mused.
“Hey! There’s a statutory period for when punishments can be given and you’re past the time limit.”
“Ahh, who is the Daddy here?” Tobias asked.
“Jenner! Because you’re the Papa.”
“All right, who is the Papa?” Tobias asked.
“You are.”
“So who makes the rules?”
“Immy does! Because she is the cutest!”
“Immy is definitely the cutest,” Jenner told her, walking over to boop her nose. Then he kissed her lightly.
Ooh, she liked that.
“But she’s also the Little, so she doesn’t get to make the rules,” Jenner added.
Cupcakes.
“Also, Immy is supposed to be taking a nap,” Tobias added.
“Nooo! Booo! Down with naps!”
“Naps are important,” Jenner said. “But instead of your nap, you can go to bed earlier.”
She groaned but nodded. “Okie-dokie, Daddy.”
“Good girl. Last rule, you can’t leave the playroom without one of us or use the bathroom on your own,” Tobias added.
Yikes.
