We hear another loud thump against the door.

Kai fills up a plate, sitting it in front of me with a cup of wine.

I wrinkle my nose up. He winks at me and pulls out a Coke.

“I had to call in favors for that,” he says and I frown at him.

His smile disappears. “From Flower Power?” I ask, recalling Rose. I knew the nymph’s name, but I chose to be petty instead.

Jax looks between us, then he grabs the nectar, filling two cups and passing one to Kai. Kai takes my face in his hand. “Hey look, I have a past, we all do, but none are my present since I met you.” He kisses me.

He pulls away, lifting a piece of bread to my mouth.

I open, take a bite and chew. I didn’t notice how much I need food, but I am starving.

I take the rest of the bread from his hand, devouring it.

“Thank you,” I say. Opening the can of Coke, I take a huge drink.

The cold, sweet drink is so delicious that I moan.

“Seems you don’t even need to touch her for her to make those sexual noises,” Jax says. I flip him off and he chuckles.

I lean over, kissing Kai on the cheek. “This is amazing, thank you so much. I might need to make those connections as well now that I’ll be calling this place home.

” It pains me to say that, but I might as well accept my new reality.

Because this is it, and if I ever want something from Earth, I will need to have connections.

Kai grabs his goblet of nectar and drains it Jax pours him more and then he drinks his own.

I grab a piece of cubed meat and it looks good, but then I get a flashback of Tartarus, remembering the burning man, and I quickly drop it.

Kai notices, so I pick up grapes and start shoveling those in my mouth.

He grabs a skewer of grilled vegetables. He eats it and notices that I am eye-fucking his food so he holds it out for me. “I’m afraid if I don’t give it to you, you’ll eat my entire arm.” I roll my eyes but proceed to take it from him, even though I have one on my plate.

“I told you, I don’t bite hard unless asked.” I pull off a piece of grilled vegetable. The taste is heavenly, but I know that the food is off here. It’s missing the sizzle of Earth food.

Jax sits back in his chair and clears his throat “Ade, we have a plan to get you out of here.” I swallow my food, placing the skewer on my plate.

“What?” I ask because I can’t believe my ears.

I reach for Kai’s hand. “Get me out of here? I...I knew you guys were going to try, but after what Hades just did.” I look away from them because I still haven’t told them what happened.

I have even kept my hair down because I’m not ready for them to see the tattoo.

Kai pulls me to him and I allow him to because I need the support. “We figured out a workable way out of here, and I found a way for us to help Nora. It just requires other people to aid us, but I can’t tell you much more right now,” Kai mumbles, his voice wavering .

He said we are going to get out, and my heart flips, those pesky butterflies in my stomach are back.

Because that means there is a we! He is coming with me.

“Understand, it’s not a foolproof plan. I mean it is and isn’t, but we have to take the chance now,” Jax says, and he takes my other hand in his.

“Hades...we can’t trust him, not with you, and I won’t have you hurt or punished.

I won’t allow him to have you,” Kai says angrily.

He knew his father would want to claim me.

“Try to trust us though, and I know it’s hard, but when we say it’s time, be ready and don’t look back.

There is no guarantee, this plan could go to Tartarus, so let’s hope the gods smile on us for a fucking change. ”

“Thank you,” I whisper. What else can I say? I had resigned myself to stay and make the best out of the situation I’m in. But now I know they have planned something, and the fire is back, licking under my veins, and the water in the glasses starts to swirl.

Jax looks at me. “Your powers are growing.” I shrug. I noticed at dinner, but wasn’t sure. “They are, I can tell,” he says with affirmation in his voice.

“So that happened at dinner. Except I made the water boil?” I ask, because I want to make sure.

Kai looks at me. “Your emotions are triggering your powers. It makes sense, you’re allowing yourself free rein of them. After you master them, you’ll control it without needing your emotions heightened.”

“I think I am going to head to my room. I just wanted to make sure we were on the same page of the escape plan. I won’t tell you anymore because we can’t risk it, not yet.” He gets up and moves to the door.

I run to him, throwing myself into his arms. He pulls me into him, lifting me up and hugging me tightly.

“Enjoy your night tonight,” he whispers, and I know he is telling me something but I don’t know what it is, and right now I don’t care.

I have hope again and even though it’s not a guarantee, it’s something. I kiss Jax on the cheek.

“Thank you, I know what all this means and I know what a risk this is for us all, but mostly for you both.” He places me back on my feet.

“I’m not stupid. I know you both wouldn’t risk this for anyone and I am just a human to you, but it’s everything to me.

And knowing that somehow you and Kai are going to help Nora also means the world to me. I owe you and him everything.”

He looks over at Kai and I know they are talking somehow telepathically, or they know each other well enough they can communicate with just looks. “You’re not just a human Ade, and you’re not just anybody either. I knew it from the moment I first saw you, you were different.”

I know Jax has powers in his own right, he can see into the future and he can also calm you down. But I wasn’t sure what other things he could do. I have seen his eyes change colors. They go from a bright brown with green in them when happy to full on bright, shiny green when mad.

I walk back to Kai and we watch Jax walk out the door.

At hearing the door click shut, my back sags and I’m no longer able to hold myself up.

I gathered so much from this small get together that I feel drained now.

Kai must notice because he is at my side and picking me up, carrying me to the bed.

He pushed the table with the food over and I am so grateful.

I know I turn him on. I can feel it, but I can also sense it coming from him as well.

It turns me on, but my eyes are feeling so heavy.

He lays me down in bed and covers me up.

He pulls his shirt off and I watch his toned body, on full display.

I giggle to myself, thinking he has the body of a Greek god, but of course he does.

He is a Greek god. He crawls into bed beside me, taking my hand in his and kissing all the way to my shoulder as he lays down, pulling me into him.

He takes a deep breath, inhaling my scent.

“Sleep, my Skoteinos Angelos,” he whispers.

I snuggle into him as his arms wrap around me and he pulls the covers over us both. “Thank you for being here and for trying to save me. Thank you for giving me hope again, but most importantly, Kai, thank you for wanting to help Nora,” I whisper as we lay there cuddling together.

“I will always do everything I can to protect you, Adriane. You’re the only good thing I’ve found in so long.” He kisses the top of my head and I sink into sleep with him at my back as his arms snake around me. I feel safe.

“You’re mine,” Hades says to me. I look around. I am back in Tartarus. Hades is behind me, holding me and whispering in my ear. We are watching the hellhounds chase a guy across a field. “Once you give me a chance, I know you will come to love me.”

I look down at myself. I am in another beautiful soul dress, but I can feel the souls calling out for help again. “You have a queen already,” I say.

He laughs, shoving me away, and I fall to the ground. “Of course I do, but you are going to give me something even Persephone can’t say no to. Children, to make us powerful, so we can finally take what is ours. But maybe after a month here, you will change your mind.”
