Story: Grayson (Jasper Springs #4)
CHAPTER 34
Grayson
The morning was quiet. Too quiet.
I’d spent the night tossing and turning, my body cold from the chill in the air. Henry slept curled up on the edge of the bed, far away from me.
It had been poor timing that he’d show up the moment Cody decided to be... well, Cody.
I’d pushed him away, but the damage was done. Henry saw him kiss me, and he must have thought...
Well, it was more than apparent what he thought, because the tears running down his face were enough to cut me to the bone.
I’d pleaded with him to listen, but he wasn’t capable of listening. Seeing Cody and I set off some trigger, something buried beneath Henry’s charming, sweet exterior.
Perhaps it was the very trigger that had kept him with one foot out the door, this entire weekend.
Whoever had hurt him... I wanted to wring their fucking neck. For tarnishing this perfect man who deserved the world and made him think he wasn’t enough.
He was worth more than gold.
I needed to make him understand that as far as I was concerned, there was no one else, and the moment I saw him crumble before me, his voice full of pain as he cried “you promised,” I knew there would never be anyone else.
Because I was in love with Henry.
I was completely balls to the wall, head over heels, soap opera style in love with Henry.
He showered and dressed without a word, packing up his suitcase. After wine check, we were wrapping up the afternoon with spa appointments, and then we’d be leaving.
It would be time to head back to reality.
A reality where Henry and I would part our ways.
Probably never to speak again, given everything that’s happened.
“Cam’s here,” Henry said coolly, dragging his suitcase by the door.
“Right,” I said, the tension between us palpable. There were so many things I wanted to say, but I couldn’t find the words.
