Story: Grayson (Jasper Springs #4)
CHAPTER 30
Grayson
The sun shone through the dome like the Heavens were parting or something. Gold, bright, and far too early for my liking.
I blinked furiously, filtering the light. My head was pounding, my stomach empty as all hell, grumbling away.
I rubbed my eyes and sat up, the covers falling off of me. My gaze traveled to Henry, who was laying flat on his stomach, the covers barely covering him, his bare, pale ass on full display.
For a moment, I felt at peace, watching the rise and fall of his back, until I felt the urge to pee. Throwing off the covers, I swung my legs out of bed, my cock bristling from the friction of the sheet.
Head pounding, and half-dazed, I made my way to the bathroom, when I realized that I was also naked.
Panic laced through me as I tried to recall the prior night’s events, but everything was a blur.
A wine-filled blur, and I couldn’t remember anything after a karaoke-infused dinner at Lovers Lodge, the main bar that was open for the after-events of the festival.
I remembered arriving with Henry and everyone else, but I had no idea how we got back to the dome, or if we...
“Oh fuck,” Henry’s voice alerted me as he called out, “Grayson!”
I finished my business, heading back to the main room, to see Henry looked as panicked as I felt.
His gaze settled on me, and I stood there before him, feeling the most judged I have ever felt in my life.
What... what happened?” Henry asked, his voice shaky, and all I could do was shake my head nervously.
“I... I don’t know,” I said honestly. But that was apparently the wrong thing to say, because Henry’s eyes widened.
“What do you mean you don’t know?”
“I don’t... uh... remember. Do you?” I asked, frozen in place.
Henry’s eyebrows furrowed with concern, and I could see his breathing increase.
“No,” he said, his voice laced with anxiety.
“All I remember is singing karaoke, and dancing...” He ran a hand through his disheveled hair, swallowing harshly. And then Henry said the quiet part out loud, and that changed everything.
“Oh my God, did we...” His voice elevated, the panic more than evident.
This was not how I wanted things to happen, if they were going to happen at all.
The fact I couldn’t remember did not bode well. Henry deserved more from me.
I took a step closer toward Henry, who was sitting in bed now, breathing rapidly. I reached out for him, if only to soothe his panic, and perhaps my own. His gaze flashed at me as he pulled away, breaking my heart.
No no no no...
“Grayson, answer me...” he said, his voice and his body shaking.
“I told you, I don’t know. Everything is a blur. I—”
A knock sounded on the door, and Henry shook his head, throwing his legs out of bed with full force.
“I need a shower. Don’t come after me,” he said solidly. My shoulders fell in defeat as I watched him walk away, and the entire world felt like it was crumbling.
How could I have been so fucking stupid?
Because I was drunk.
As I surveyed the clothes strewn across the room, I picked up my underwear from the edge of the bed.
The answer was more than obvious. It wouldn’t be the first time I got drunk and took someone to bed, but Henry wasn’t like everyone else. He was different. Delicate, even.
And I’d just signed a one way ticket to destroying the foundation of something beautiful, something epic.
“The one good thing to happen to me in years, and I fuck it up. Good job, Gray,” I said to myself, sighing in defeat as I headed to the door. The Breakfast cart was sitting at my doorstep, with an itinerary, but no annoying Cam to be found.
Even the staff knows I’m a fucking idiot.
I pulled the cart in, grabbing the itinerary and scanning the activities for the day. My sister had planned a morning hike to the Brideshead Waterfall, complete with waterfall side dining for lunch, and a formal dinner at Wildfyre, a reservation only restaurant between our glampgrounds and the Brideshead Resort’s main lodge.
My stomach rumbled with hunger, but when Henry came out of the shower, not even turning to look at me, or acknowledging me at all, I lost my appetite.
