“I didn’t kill Bjorn. I merely took him out of the equation,” Mariska stated. “For now.” A cold look covered her face—it was a look Adalyn knew far better than she had ever wanted to. That calculated, conniving look her mother so often wore.
Adalyn’s stomach churned. What kind of sick game was her mother playing?
“What do you mean you didn’t kill him? If my father isn’t dead—where the hell is he?” Astral projection or not, Adalyn was ready to kick her ass. What did she mean she didn’t kill Bjorn? How could that even be a possibility?
If he wasn’t dead, where the hell was he?
“Let’s call this Plan B. In the event you fail your mission or decide to betray my trust.”
Adalyn’s heart pounded, she fought to remain calm. “Mother, how can you even think I’d betray you?” Mariska couldn’t possibly know how she truly felt.
“Good. Because if you even consider it, I will have Bjorn slaughter his entire pack. And the best part, he won’t even know what he’s doing until every last mongrel in that town has taken their last breath. Then and only then will he know what he’s done.”
