Friday
It honestly wasn’t that big of a leap to think that Penny was a high-end prostitute, because she was fucking gorgeous. I mean…she’d be a great surprise for him if she wasn’t mine . It was a hilarious mix-up. One that could be kind of fun to go along with…
Rob winked at me again.
Nope. I needed to put an end to it before my brother kissed my girlfriend. "Jesus, stop talking, Rob." I walked over and wrapped my arm around Penny’s shoulders.
"So..." Rob looked back and forth between us. "You are fucking then?"
"No, Rob. Or, well, yes actually." I smiled at the flush crossing Penny’s cheeks. "This is my girlfriend." I squeezed her shoulder.
"Wait, what?” Rob looked back and forth between us. “What about the troll?"
"We're divorced." God that felt good to say.
"Seriously?!”
I don’t think I’d ever seen Rob look so excited. Well, except for when he was playing a prank on someone.
“I didn't really think you had the balls to cut that cord."
I laughed. Yeah, me too. Apparently I just needed to sober up to grow a pair.
"Okay, wow. So, we should probably start over," Rob said to Penny.
"Yeah." Penny smiled and stuck her hand back out to Rob. "Let's just pretend that didn't happen."
Rob laughed. "No, actually that's a great story. I can't wait to tell people I thought my brother's new girlfriend was a prostitute. And it's a compliment really. You're hot. I'm sure you get that all the time."
Her cheeks flushed even more. "Only recently."
I tightened my grip on her shoulder. Rob was an incorrigible flirt, I knew that.
But I wasn’t loving him flirting with Penny.
What was he doing? I hadn’t liked anyone in a really long time.
And I couldn’t remember if he’d always flirted with girls I’d liked or if this was a new annoying trait he’d developed overseas.
Rob laughed again. "She's funny. And young.” He looked her up and down. “You look really young. How old are you?"
Oh screw me. He was going to give me so much shit about this. I’d been so adamant about the fact that I hadn’t started teaching to hook up with hot students.
"Twenty,” Penny said.
Rob stared at her for a second and then looked back at me.
I shrugged. What else could I do? It wasn’t like I was going to be able to keep it a secret from him that Penny was my student.
"Oh shit! Don't even say it. She's your student, isn't she? Oh my God, this is golden. The perfect son is fucking one of his students? I love it. Do Mom and Dad know?"
"Okay, we need to talk for a second,” I said and let go of Penny’s shoulder. I walked toward the living room, grabbing Rob's arm on the way.
"Does he get mad at you a lot too?" Rob yelled over his shoulder. "I bet that makes things exciting in bed."
"Shut up," I said and pulled him out of earshot of Penny.
“I’m so confused. I thought you weren’t going to hook up with any of your sexy students.”
“I didn’t plan to. And I met her before classes started.”
“You’ve talked to me since classes started.” He gave me a very stern look. Which was just funny because he was never stern.
“Trust me, when she showed up in one of my classes, I tried to be on my best behavior.”
“And clearly failed.”
Yeah, I had nothing to say to that.
“You told me you had a surprise for me, though,” Rob said. “Where is it?”
“Penny was the surprise.”
“But Penny’s not a prostitute. So…that’s hardly a surprise for me .”
I laughed. “I thought you’d be happy for me.”
“I’d be happier if I was getting head from a prostitute right now.”
“Fair. By the way, Ellen’s going to be annoyed that you pretended you didn’t know who she was.”
Rob laughed. “Ellen would never be mad at me. I’m her favorite.”
“Her favorite what? You can’t be her favorite. She’s my employee.”
“Her favorite Hunter brother.”
“You’re ridiculous.” But I couldn’t stop smiling.
“You missed me.”
I nodded. “I did.”
Rob rubbed his hands together. “So does this mean you’re not going to be upset if I hook up with a hot student too? Because I was definitely planning on doing that. Wait, how does the school feel about your relationship with Penny?”
“Not great. Isabella broke the story before I could talk to the dean. Did you see all those news vans out there? Some of my other female students claimed I hit on them too after the story broke. Just so they could get As. It’s all such a mess. I had to resign.”
“Shit, really? I’m sorry, man. I know you really liked this job.”
I shrugged. “I like her more.”
“Yeah, no wonder.” He tried to peer around my shoulder to check Penny out so I hit him in the back of the head.
“Ow.” He rubbed his head. “What was that for?”
“You know what it’s for. Why are you flirting with her?”
“I always flirt with whoever you’re dating. It’s my thing.”
Was it though? “You never flirted with Isabella.”
He pretended to throw up. “Clarification. I flirt with your hot girlfriends. And Isabella is a troll. But Penny’s gorgeous. High-five, man.” He lifted his hand.
I couldn’t not high-five him. I felt like I’d won the lottery with Penny.
Rob stared at me. “It’s weird.” He cocked his head to the side.
“What’s weird?” Stop looking at me like that.
“I almost forgot what you looked like when you smiled.”
I swallowed hard. Yeah. Me too . I looked back over at Penny. She was taking a huge bite of pizza. And something about it made me laugh.
“You’ve got it bad,” Rob said.
“Yeah. I really do.” I turned back to him. “Did Ian tell you anything when he let you in?”
“Nope. He asked me a lot of questions about Jen though. Is there something going on between them?”
“I don’t think so.” Honestly I had no idea though.
And I wanted to talk more about that. But there were more pressing matters.
“Penny doesn’t know about Ian. Or any of the cameras installed around the apartment.
” Except the one in the elevator now . And I was pretty sure she’d assumed that had been installed by the building manager, not me.
“So please don’t mention anything about it to her. ”
“You have cameras all over the apartment? Okay, psycho.”
“It’s a security system.”
“Sure it is.”
“It is,” I said.
“So you don’t rewatch footage of the two of you hooking up on the couch?” He gestured to the couch we were standing next to.
“No.”
“You’re lying,” Rob said.
“I’m not lying.”
“Yes you are. I know all your tells. That’s why I always beat you at poker.”
“You don’t always beat me at poker.”
“I do. And you film Penny and jerk off to the footage. Fucking amazing. Can I see it?”
What the fuck? He was as bad as Ian. “No you can’t see it.”
“Fine. I’ll keep your dirty little secret footage and bodyguard a secret and I’ll keep flirting with Penny. Deal? Deal.” He patted my chest.
Wow. That was not the deal at all. “No deal. Stop flirting with her. And stop being so brazen, man.”
“Eh. We’ll see what happens. I don’t really believe in filters.”
Of course he didn’t. “Just be on your best behavior.”
“I don’t even know what that is,” he said with a laugh. He slapped my back and started walking back into the kitchen.
I had no idea if he was going to stop flirting with Penny or not.
But at least he’d give me time to tell Penny about the cameras and Ian.
She’d been really turned on by the ones in the elevator.
She wasn’t going to care. But it was still better to tell her myself. I followed Rob back into the kitchen.
"Ugh, I have to share my pizza with her too?
This is the worst." Rob laughed and sat down next to Penny.
"Just kidding. Have all the pizza that you want.
James caught me up on the whole illicit student professor affair thing.
So apparently now I won't say anything that will embarrass him.
And I'm sorry that I thought you were a prostitute. "
"It's fine," Penny said with a laugh.
"Thanks for helping get the troll back under her bridge.
I owe you one. I tried to get rid of her for years.
But I just made fun of her all the time.
She was so stuck up. She always had the craziest reactions to stuff.
If I had mistaken her for a hooker, I'm pretty sure she would have had a heart attack.
I always thought I'd be the one to make her run screaming.
I'm sure sucking her husband's cock made it easier for you to be victorious, though. "
"What did we just talk about?" I said.
"Dude, chill. I'm sure Penny and I are on the same page here."
Penny started laughing.
"See, she thinks I'm funny." He grabbed another slice of pizza. "So what do you two usually do on a Friday night?"
“Last Friday night we went to a Halloween party,” Penny said. “And James ended up punching one of my friends in the face."
I pressed my lips together. Penny told it like it was a fun story. But it absolutely was not. Fucking Tyler.
Rob laughed. "Sounds fun. I bet we could find a good Halloween party to go to tonight."
"Or we can stay in,” I said. “Penny and I have been practicing what it would be like if we were under house arrest."
"That sounds awful. Did you say you were only 20, Penny?"
"Yeah."
"So a bar is out. Crashing a college party it is." He rubbed his hands together.
"I think it's probably best if I stay away from college parties for a while," I said. For Joe’s sake. I was already making his job hard enough.
"Oh, because of the whole rapey thing?"
What the fuck? "I need to go shower. Maybe you can give him a tour, Penny?" I wouldn’t have wanted to leave Rob alone with her, but I was still dirty from my workout. Besides, if Rob actually did anything terrible, Ian was watching. And Penny giving Rob a tour meant they’d stumble upon the pool room where we’d left our clothes scattered all over last night.
That would scream that Penny was off-limits.
"Sure,” Penny said.
"And stop saying inappropriate stuff to my girlfriend, Rob."
Rob shrugged. "I don't think I've even said anything that inappropriate."
