Chapter fifty-five
S omehow when Olive said it was time I didn’t think she meant right this second, but I guess I was wrong. It only takes a few minutes for us all to be ready. As soon as we are all close together and have joined hands, she yanks us out of Wyoming and straight to Alaska.
I’ve always wanted to visit but not under these circumstances.
Luckily, Alaska is home to the midnight sun and even though it’s after eight p.m. it’s still as bright as midday.
Olive has dropped us in front of a large ostentatious looking log cabin. The kind you expect to see a celebrity build, not a wolf pack.
My mates stand side by side slightly in front of me with my brothers lined up behind them. Zander and Ridge flank our line on one side and everyone else stands behind us guarding our backs.
Olive and Hunter push through the lines to stand beside me.
The door opening pulls all our attention to the front porch as a tall, muscular man steps out. He’s shirtless, with long stringy blond hair blowing in the breeze.
When he pauses at the top of the porch steps and lets out a sharp whistle, wolves of every color come out from behind the house. I stop counting at forty. I have no doubt that we can wipe the ground with this group as easily as we did those that attacked the shelter.
When the Alpha crosses his arms over his chest and stands up a bit straighter, I hear Ridge snort. “Oh boy, here comes the Braveheart speech.”
I can tell Piper and Sage heard him because when Piper steps forward to issue her challenge, she has a devious grin on her face. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Ridge made the joke on purpose just to give her a boost as she faces down the man she thought was her father.
“Richard Bartholomew Ferguson! I challenge you for the title of Alpha Supreme!” The way Piper’s voice booms and echoes through the clearing tells me one of our Goddesses made sure that everyone in the pack lands heard her challenge.
He throws back his head and laughs. “So, my useless daughter finally comes home, and I see you brought the hybrid with you.”
Sage plants her hands on her hips and tosses her hair, not showing an ounce of fear. “I’d say it’s nice to see you Alpha Dick, but I was raised with manners and taught not to lie.”
By the way a muscle starts twitching in his jaw, he’s not happy with her sass. I start to step towards her, wanting to have a hand on my mate when my ears fill with static.
Hunter freezes beside me and I can tell we are both frozen in shock when our father steps out of the house and down the steps. Calmly standing next to Richard.
His eyes start at one side of the clearing and move around our group, but when he gets to Hunter and me, he does a comical double take, turning a bit pale under his tan.
Shifters rule based on dominance, and I can tell he feels how dominant my wolf has become. Hunter’s is damn near as strong as mine and, given a few more years, could even be stronger.
Dear old dad doesn’t stand a chance against us, and he knows it.
Hunter places a hand on my shoulder and when I tear my gaze away from my father, I look at my brother.
The rage in his eyes would scare me if I didn’t know where it was directed. “That’s him?” His voice is soft, the question for my ears alone.
“Yes, that’s our father. Together?” I didn’t know when we came here that my greatest enemy would be standing side by side with my mates. Somehow this is fitting though.
I have a feeling that by the time the sun sets on this day the world will truly be a better place.
Hunter grins at me, looking downright feral. “Together.”
The last thing I see before my shift takes me is the puzzlement on my father’s face giving way to terror. Side by side, Hunter and I charge forward.
The feared Alpha Supreme scrambles to get out of our way as we pounce on his best friend.
There is no need for words, no time for accusations. Spencer Knight is a murderer, and we are his executioners.
I leap from two feet away and crash into him with my jaws around his throat. Hunter bites into the soft flesh of his belly and we both plant our feet and rip.
Blood flies and his intestines spill all over the ground. I shake my head dropping the chunk of esophagus I just tore out of his throat.
He never stood a chance.
Hunter and I shift back, standing over him as the spark fades from his eyes. “I’d tell you to rot in Hell but it’s too nice of a place for you. I just hope now my mother and sisters can rest in peace.”
A wet gurgle makes bubbles appear in the blood running from his gaping throat and then he’s gone.
My father is dead.
Thank fuck.
Hunter wraps his arm around my shoulder and pulls me back towards my mates.
I can’t help but feel guilty about everything he went through. “I’m sorry, Hunt. So sorry that I wasn’t there for you.”
He slaps me lightly across the back of the head. “Stop that shit. Things happened the way they were meant to. I wouldn’t change anything about what I went through because it led me to this amazing family, my mate, and my brother.”
He snickers quietly. “Speaking of my weird ass parents. I overheard mom asking Rory to add another room to the cabin because, and I quote, both of my boys deserve a room in their home. I think she is secretly hoping for sleepovers.”
I grin at him, feeling the weight of my father’s death roll off my shoulders. “Name the day, brother.”
A string of snarls interrupts our bonding moment as the wolves of the Alaska pack choose that moment to charge our line.
It’s easy to see that my brothers have the wolves handled while Piper and Jasper are facing off with Richard. With the sounds of the battle surrounding us, I can’t hear what Piper is saying, I just see her throw her head back and laugh before she slaps her hand against Richard’s forehead, both of them flaring with light.
Richard falls to his knees, and I watch in astonishment as a large blond wolf appears out of thin air right next to him.
“Well, fuck me sideways, remind me to never piss off my sister-in-law. I’d like to keep my wolf right where he is.” Hunter is watching Piper in awe, along with most of the Alaska wolves.
I have a feeling the Goddesses gave my mate an upgrade because I’ve never heard of anyone being able to separate a wolf spirit from its human.
“No shit.” I answer. “That’s a nifty new trick she has.”
