“I wouldn’t be blowing my top at them because they wouldn’t go in without a fucking team of backup!”
“Because they can’t! They’re too recognizable. But I’m not. I’m the invisible Quinn brother and with a mask on, no one even knew I was there. I was the only one of us who could’ve pulled this off.”
Sean steps between us, hands raised. “All right, enough. The fact is, he went, he got the hacker, and he brought him back here.”
“Her,” I correct.
“Her who?” Sean’s brow furrows.
“Gravely’s hacker is a woman. Her handle is Nyx. I broughtherback.”
My brothers exchange loaded glances.
Bryan crosses his arms. “You’ve got a woman locked up in our basement?”
I throw up my hands. “I know what you’re thinking, and I didn’t suddenly get memory wiped and reprogrammed to forget about the Quinn Laws. I was gentle with her, respectful, and I put a 3-inch foam topper on the floor and made sure there was feminine stuff in the bathroom.”
Brendan snorts. “And you think that’s all it will take to calm the woman down?”
“What was I supposed to do? Let her keep hacking our systems because she has tits?”
“You were supposed to track her down, bring us the intel, and then we would formulate a plan together,” Tag snaps.
“So you could shut me down and tell me I’m not ready?”
“No, Finny, so we could have your back!”
Sean scowls at us. “It’s all semantics. She’s here. Let’s deal with it. How does this change things?”
“Gravely lost his tech advantage,” Bryan says.
“And gained a grudge,” Brendan adds.
“He already had one,” I point out. “And he doesn’t know we have her.”
Tag stops pacing and meets my gaze. His green eyes narrow as he studies me. “Fine, let’s assume he doesn’t know we’ve got her. How long do you think it’ll take before he notices she’s missing?”
I shrug. “That would depend on how often they communicate.”
“Which we might know if you’d sat on the intel and observed her a little before snatching her.”
“Or we wouldn’t if she slipped through our fingers and stayed wherever she lies low. It’s not like she’s out gallivanting around Dublin, Tag. Nyx is stealthy and secretive. That she met Gravely at this party was a huge win for us.”
“Maybe check her messages and make an excuse for why she left the party,” Brendan suggests. “Do you have her phone?”
I point to the green velvet clutch on the war table behind us and open it to grab her phone. A swipe at the screen brings up the fingerprint scanner and I walk down the hall, open the door to her cell and?—
“Oof.” I bend backward like Neo in the freaking Matrix movies to avoid the right hook whizzing past my face.
“You bastard” Her words are slurred as she overextends and stumbles to catch her balance. “I can’t be here.”
I catch her before she hurts herself and ease her back to the mattress. Brenny is chuckling and I don’t need to look behind me to know how entertaining he’s finding this. Instead, I get Nyxsettled again, press her finger to the screen of her phone, and pass it back.
“What are you…no…that’s mine.”
“I know, beautiful. It’s okay, we’re just going to borrow it for a bit. You rest. You’re safe here.”
She blinks up at me and I see the moment realization hits. “Finn Quinn.” She snorts and her head lolls to the side. “Silly name…but wow…you kiss good.”
