Ronan scoffed. “No, you didn’t.”

“It doesn’t matter," I interrupted, not pleased to have the other man in my home when I had so much to discuss with Ronan. “We’re back and Ronan is working, and I’m leaving for Colorado tomorrow, and Foster is…”

Shit.

“Foster is what?”

“Missing,” Ronan answered.

“Since when?”

“I haven’t heard from him since Monday. I’m not sure where he is, but that isn’t necessarily new.”

It wasn’t new because that was how Foster lived. He treated his friends like they mattered when it was convenient for him.

“Alright.” Sage stood. “If someone wants you dead, you need to get your shit together.”

“I’m not…” Ronan frowned, letting out a long and tired breath. “I’m not like the two of you.”

“Just check your fucking surroundings, Doc.” Sage looked at me. “You too. Stay in Colorado.”

“Do you know who wants him dead?” I interrupted, desperate to know if anyone had any information about how Ronan was involved with all of this.

“No. But I’ll figure it all out.” Sage looked like he carried the weight of the world on his shoulders, a look I’d seen more times than I wanted to admit on Ronan. I had a flash of concern for him. Worry. But it passed.

“Did I really not thank you?” Sage asked Ronan over his shoulder.

“No. You didn’t.”

“Thank you,” Sage said to the door, not to Ronan.

“You’re welcome.”

Sage let himself out and Ronan sagged against the back of the couch. I reached for him, taking his hand in mine and kissing the tips of his knuckles.

“Dinner smells good,” he said with his eyes closed.

“It will be,” I assured him. “Let me take care of you tonight, for once.”

“You take care of me every night.”

“Let me really take care of you.” I bit the tip of his finger between my teeth. “Let me serve you.”

Ronan’s lashes fluttered and he smiled, the lines around his eyes softening with the expression.

“Yes, Kevin,” he agreed.
