Kevin chuckled and the tension eased. Even if just barely.
“I’ll do my best,” he said quietly.
I reached for him and he came readily, arranging himself between my spread thighs. I wrapped my arms around his waist and pressed my cheek against him, listening to his strong and steady heartbeat beneath his ribs. I closed my eyes, breathing him in and holding him as tight as I could manage. Kevin brought his arms around my head, resting his fingers in my hair, playing with the ends. He touched me assuredly, and the confidence of his movements made me want to cry.
It was the reminder I needed.
The foundation wasn’t weak at all. It was indestructible.
“Do you still want to marry me?” I whispered against his shirt, the material fluttering beneath my breath.
“I don’t just want it,” he promised me, “I need it.”
“Please go to Colorado.”
“For a little bit,” he conceded, patting the back of my head. “Let’s go. You’re the one who wanted to see Rich and Sam. Let’s not keep them waiting.”
I nipped at his stomach, and he pulled at the ends of my hair.
“Do you want to play while we’re there?” I asked.
Kevin untangled himself from my arms and looked down at me with a doubtful expression on his face. “Are you up for that?”
“You wound me, Kevin.”
“You seem distracted is all,” he said.
“We’ll play it by ear.”
“Yes, Ronan,” he agreed, taking my hands and pulling me off the bed. Our chests bumped together and our noses brushed. Kevin smelled like coffee and sugar, and I kissed him until all I could taste was myself.
“Let’s go,” I whispered against his mouth when I was done. His cock protested, pushing at my hip for attention it wouldn’t get.
Almost feeling like I’d returned to level ground, we made the short drive to Rich’s house in Pasadena, where Sam greeted us at the door, barefoot, wearing only a pair of jeans and a coating of pink lip gloss.
“You made it,” he greeted, stepping back to make room for us in the large entryway. To the right of the foyer was Rich’s office, ornate in its decoration. Further down, the living room and the kitchen, and to the left beside the stairs, the door to the basement. It was cracked open, light filtering up into the hallway.
“Did we interrupt something?” I asked.
Sam’s entire body flushed from his chest to the tips of his ears.
“Clearly a yes,” Kevin offered, just as Rich appeared at the top of the basement stairs, fully dressed for work in slacks and a button-up like he always was. The heels of his shoes clacked against the wood floor after he closed the basement door behind him and he fixed an amused look at Sam.
“Are you all right?” he asked.
“Yes, Sir,” Sam said quietly, his eyes flickering down toward Rich’s feet.
“Go get our friends some drinks,” he said, and Sam was off toward the kitchen without another word.
“It looks like we interrupted something good,” I said to Rich, who answered me with a knowing smirk.
“Just trying out a new toy I found that plays right into the things Sam loves most in the world.”
“Which are?”
“Me, my shoes, and getting fucked.”
Sam appeared at the end of the hallway, and Rich turned toward him with a smile. “Come on, let’s sit out back. The weather is so nice today. What brings you around?”
