Story: Deception (Mafia Daddies #3)
I deliver another swift kick to the piece of shit who has been stealing our product. We’re already on high alert with the FBI crawling up our asses, and we’ve moved all shipments to go through the O’Connell family’s warehouse, having to forfeit a cut to them, but there are still dumb assess who think they can screw us over.
Then I lean over him and grab his hair, yanking his head back and forcing him to cry out. “I’m about to fucking slaughter you.” I smile, causing the scumbag to piss himself and my smile to grow wider. Jesus, I love the thrill of their terror.
Taking my knife from my holster, I stand on his arm, ignoring the crunch of his bones beneath me. Then I slam the thick blade into his flesh, forcing him to scream as I carve his hand from his limp form, much like I’ve threatened before now.
The shrill sound of my phone blaring out causes my shoulders to sag, but I swipe at the sweat gathered on my forehead and tug it from my jeans pocket.
Instantly, a smile plays on my face at Hallie’s red hair splayed out on my pillowcase filling the screen. “Little Red,” I answer with a smirk while my cock takes note of her heavy sigh.
“I know you’re going to be mad.” My eyebrows furrow. “But I’m going to be really quick,” she blurts, and the hairs on the back of my neck stand to attention. “I need to head over to pick Matty up from his house.”
My body coils taut. “No.”
The sound of her car engine in the background has anger seething through me. “Did you hear me? No, Hallie.”
“H-he needs me, .” She sniffles, and I fucking hate not being there for her, but she needs to listen. She doesn’t realize how dangerous that family is.
“Listen to me. I said no, Hallie.”
Turning to face Silas, I place my hand over the speaker. “Finish him.” I nod to the piece of shit at my feet, and Silas gives me a chin lift as I head toward the door and shove my blade back in my holster.
“Well, I’m going. Gerrard isn’t there. I need to pick Matty up, .” The despair in her voice has my blood running cold.
“What happened?”
“He hit Matty but left. I want to fetch him before he comes back.”
“He what?” I bellow, my shoulders bunch tight as a surge of protectiveness rushes through me. How dare he touch him?
She sniffles, and my shoulders drop at the sound. I shake my head. “I don’t want you going there alone, Hal. Just wait for me, please.”
“Gerrard isn’t there right now. I’m going to grab Matty and meet you back at my house.”
Anger burns my blood. She’s so damn adamant. “He needs me, .”
I grind my jaw as I throw my leg over my motorbike, knowing I’m losing this battle. “I can be there in less than twenty minutes, Hallie.”
“I’m five minutes away.” Her voice wobbles, and I fucking hate it. “I want to be in and out before Gerrard comes back. I don’t want any more trouble.”
My teeth ache as I struggle to compose my budding temper. “Hallie, listen to me. I don’t want you going there without me. It isn’t safe.”
“No. You listen to me. Matty called me, and I’m going. If Gerrard comes back and you’re with me, it’s going to start a war neither of us is prepared for.” Her sharp tone leaves no room for argument, and when she ends the call, I contemplate throwing my phone.
“Fuck!” I shout.
Then, with shaky fingers, I dial Rafael. Something tells me I will need some motherfucking backup.
