Chapter Nine

DAR

A feeling of terror rouses me. I stand, phaser in hand, looking for the intruder who dared enter my home. Shaking my head, I try to clear away the feelings of confusion and grief bombarding me. “ SAGE , is there an intruder?”

“ No , Master DaR .”

I hear a gasp, and my head turns back toward the healing chamber. I never thought to look there first. It is too soon for her to be awake. The sight of her bright brown eyes staring up at me startles a growl from my lips.

I see her flinch right before sleep pulls her back under. I curse my reactions. The last thing she needs is more horror in her life and I just became the next thing to terrorize her sleep .

Disgusted with myself, I walk away from her chamber. I will not sit here and haunt her any longer. The chamber will heal her, then we will find a suitable arrangement for all of us once she is up and about. The best thing I can do right now is act like she is not even here.

“ SAGE , prepare my transport. I have a planet to find and a slave market to shut down. Notify Tordan that I will arrive shortly.”

“ Yes , Master DaR . Before you leave, what do you want me to do with the human?”

“ When she wakes up, you need to inform her of her status here. I brought her here to be a housemate and that is what you will help her with. I would prefer for her not to leave the premises until I return.”

“ Yes , Master .”

“ Oh , you may want to inquire about her planet. We need as much information as we can find about her species. Just because she is the first one we have seen, does not mean she has been the only one taken from her home. I care not if it is a rumor or hearsay; I want the information forwarded to my personal tablet.”

“ Absolutely , Master Dar . I will start my inquiry immediately.”
