And then everything tilted.

My vision blurred, the edges dimming like a dying screen.

My eyes fluttered shut—just as I heard the boots.

Heavy. Reluctant. Retreating.

All I had to do was wait.

Bleeding.

Breathing.

Alone.

While my family left me behind—to be saved by the enemy.

THIRTY-FIVE

Amelia

I was weak.

Weak, frantic—roaring like a caged animal.

“Ifucking told you!”

My fists collided with Dylan’s chest, his shoulder, the side of his jaw. I didn’t care where I hit him. I just needed to feel something break.

He didn’t stop me.

Didn’t block a single blow.

Not because he couldn’t.

But because he knew he deserved it.

I shifted, breath heaving, and locked eyes with Sebastian. “Satisfied now?” I spat. “Still think he’s a rogue asset?”

Sebastian’s head dropped, the weight of it finally sinking into his spine. His silence was an admission of failure.

My gaze snapped to Zane. “You should’ve trusted me.”

I was a sobbing, shaking mess—rage and heartbreak knotted tight in my chest. Logan stood nearby, whispering something, trying to calm me, but I couldn’t hear him over the roaring in my ears.

Zarek was at the end of the table—silent, shoulders tense. He looked almost… remorseful.

Too little. Too fucking late.

And Dylan—

I stared at him.

He wasn’t speaking.

Wasn’t blinking.

His expression didn’t show remorse.
