Adhan nods. “In that case, I’ll wait and see what they decide.”
“Besides, don’t forget you have two grey witches and one dark witch that you can call on for help,” Elliot points out.
Sly nods. “I don’t mind helping.”
Elliot looks at Sly and laughs. “I can’t wait to see what kind of help you produce.”
Sly grins. “Neither can I.”
“Ernest is gonna pout when he finds out he missed out on killer scarecrows and a headless horseman. I’m so adding this to the website,” Temp says, standing up.
“He really will,” Adhan agrees. He turns to Kean. “You okay to take over from Ben?”
Kean nods. “Yep, I can do that. We’re gonna need more scarecrows, though.”
“I can walk back and sort them out. Temp, are you and Ben going back to the manor? If so, I’ll grab Cass and we can go to the funfair and do the walk tomorrow,” Titus says.
“Yeah, we will. I want to make sure Greasy is properly healed,” he strokes Wolf Ben’s head. “Come on, Greasy.”
Wolf Ben gets up and walks beside Temp. As they pass Adhan, he strokes Ben’s head. Wolf Ben licks his hand, and they both leave.
“Are you four alright?” Adhan asks us.
“We are,” Sly replies, grinning. “Looking forward to the rest of the walk, though.”
Adhan and Elliot laugh.
“Good luck with that,” Elliot helpfully says. “If anyone needs me, I’ll be at the fair.”
“Thanks, Elliot, we’ll chat soon,” Adhan says.
“On that note, we’ll see you all around,” I say. “Come on, boys, let’s finish the walk.”
CHAPTER 9
We had fun walking the rest of the Haunted Walk, with nothing out of the ordinary happening. We were pelted with soft apples, spoke to merfolk and danced at the disco. Who even thinks of having a disco in the middle of a haunted walk? Well, whoever it was, we had fun.
The four of us are sitting around the breakfast table, and it seems all anyone can talk about is the events of last night.
“How come everyone knows what happened last night? There weren’t many people who saw what happened?” Enoch asks, looking confused.
Larry, walking by the table, stops to answer. “Even though we are called a town, we think of ourselves as more of a village, meaning that if something happens, you can guarantee the whole town knows. Those teenagers that were caught in the willow trees told everyone what happened to them, as did some of the others who saw it.”
“That makes sense,” Sly says, putting his cutlery down on his empty plate.
“I hear you were involved in last night’s adventures.”
“We were,” Enoch says, sounding excited. “There were killer scarecrows, and a headless horseman. So fun.”
Larry grins. “I can imagine. We can’t wait to see what happens tonight.”
Xander puts his glass down. “Neither can we.”
We watch Larry walk off.
Enoch fiddles with his knife. “Temp seemed nice, as did his brother. Plus, Titus saved you from having your head cut off.”
I grin. “Always a plus. But yeah, they seem nice.”
