Page 65 of Bite The Terror That Feeds
I grabbed her hips and tugged her close to the edge of the bed before I bent down and sank my fangs into her soft flesh. The blood hit my tongue, and I fed, listening to her moan at the pain and the pleasure.
Then someone knocked on the door.
I ignored it because nothing would interrupt my meal.
The knock sounded again. “Cobra, it’s urgent.”
I released a growl as I pulled away.
She gave a whimper in disappointment, the blood from her neck streaking to the bed.
“I’ll be right back.” Fully naked, I opened the door and looked at my brother. “What?”
“Put on your armor and meet me outside.” He walked away before I could ask for more information.
This sounded serious, so I shut the door and quickly got dressed.
“What’s happening?” she asked as she sat up.
“I don’t know.” I pieced all my armor together, fastened my golden cloak, and grabbed my sword and daggers. “Stay here.” I walked out, moved down the hallways, and found Viper in the entryway. “This better be important, Viper.”
“We’re under attack.”
My eyes glanced out the doorway into the darkness. Grayson was quiet, a city of burning torches. The men posted along the gate were on watch, standing still with their bows slung across their backs. “Is this a joke?”
Viper gave me a furious stare. “We just received a raven from our scouts to the west. Four cloaked figures are traveling under the cover of darkness toward Grayson. Based on their location and speed, they should arrive in ten minutes.”
“It looks like you’re the only one who knows about this.”
“It’s an act to give them a false sense of confidence. I’ve stationed more men along the perimeter, because these figures will probably avoid the gate, try to slip into the city unnoticed.”
“The Ethereal.”
“Yes.”
“It could be Ellasara to negotiate.”
Viper shook his head. “The time for negotiation is over. I suspect they’ve sent their assassins.”
Their best and oldest fighters. Dispatched to remove their greatest threats.
“There’s no way they could know Kingsnake’s whereabouts,” Viper continued. “So they’re here to kill both Kingsnake and Larisa.”
“They’re about to be disappointed.”
“They’re about to be dead,” he said coldly.
“If your theory is right, one will head to Kingsnake’s quarters.”
He gave a nod.
“Then I’ll wait for them there.”
“Be careful. Don’t underestimate their assassins.”
“They’re the ones who should be taking your advice.”
