Page 110 of Bite The Terror That Feeds
“That’s terrifying.”
“Isn’t it more terrifying to lose me?”
Any man I married would be a second choice. And I would only marry him for one reason.
“Isn’t it more terrifying to be with a man who can’t make you forget me? More terrifying that I fill my bed with beautiful women who look just like you to replace you?”
The thought made my stomach tighten.
“There is no other option for us.”
My eyes started to feel heavy with tears that I refused to shed. “Would you do it for me—”
“Yes.”
“Would you accept a mortal life if that were possible?”
“It’s not the same thing—”
“How can you ask me to make this sacrifice if you aren’t willing to do the same?”
He turned quiet, his eyes focused on mine. “I would make any sacrifice to be with you, Larisa.”
His words soothed my tight throat like warm honey.
“I’m not asking to sire you today. All I ask is for you to consider it.”
My eyes dropped.
“I can’t pretend anymore,” he said. “I can’t pretend that I’m not desperately in love with you. I can’t suppress these emotions for your benefit. It’s fucking exhausting.”
“You want me to marry you.” I looked up again. “But there’s so much I don’t know about you…”
“What don’t you know about me?” he demanded. “I’ve shared every piece of my life with you.”
“No, you haven’t.”
His eyes narrowed, and his anger flushed.
“Aurelias told me you were married.”
His entire expression slackened in a glimmer of horror. Anxiety and rage rushed through him, and it was the first time he broke eye contact. He released a heavy breath packed with years of rage.
“You ask me to make this sacrifice, but you can’t even tell me that you were already married?” Once you were married, you stayed married. Husbands and wives didn’t walk away from each other. You were stuck.
“Aurelias shouldn’t have told you that—”
“He assumed I already knew, which is a fair assumption.”
“What else did he tell you?”
“That was it. He stopped talking once he realized my ignorance. Now it’s time for you to fill in the blanks.”
His eyes had shifted elsewhere, looking at the wall.
“Look at me.”
He ignored my demand at first. He took a breath then shifted his gaze to me.
