Page 90 of Between Regrets and Promises (Between Us Trilogy #2)
SOPHIE
I wake up in a tangle of limbs, the sun blaring in through the windows, and wearing a goofy smile on my face.
Mason’s warm chest presses against my back, and his arm is around my waist, holding me close.
I’ve never felt safer in my life than I do right now.
He’s my protector, and I’m certain he’d never let anything bad happen to me.
Considering what I know about him, I see how far he’s come.
How much he’s done for me and all the sacrifices he’s made to get here.
The way he loves me is beyond anything I could’ve ever imagined.
Most days, it seems like what we have is too good to be true.
The thought of giving my whole heart to him terrifies me, and it makes me vulnerable and emotionally dependent.
He has the ability to ruin me, but I trust him wholeheartedly.
I don’t want to walk on eggshells anymore or allow the what-ifs to keep me guarded. I’m all in.
“Good morning, sweetheart,” he murmurs gruffly against my ear. He stirs, pushing his erection into my back. “You in the mood for a morning quickie?” I feel him grin against my neck.
“I’d say we’re past that, seeing as it’s almost noon,” I taunt, knowing we stayed up late and slept in. “Afternoon quickie?”
“Afternoon, evening, night—let’s make it an all-day marathon.”
“I’ve unleashed the beast now, haven’t I?” I chuckle and wiggle my ass. “You’re addicted.”
“Fuckin’ right, I am. Addicted to you. To your body, your soul, your amazing tits.” He slides his hand up and squeezes my bare breast.
“I think you might need to seek counseling…addiction can be dangerous,” I tell him.
“Oh, baby. This is one addiction I never want to be cured from.” Then Mason rolls me toward him and climbs over me. “In fact, I need another fix right now.”
Before he lowers his mouth to kiss me, I block him with my palm. “Wait!” I squeal, and he pops a brow. “I have morning breath.” My cheeks flush. “Let me brush my teeth and take a shower. And maybe eat something. You know, to gain more energy.”
Mason’s head falls back with a loud laugh. “Am I depriving you of fuel?”
“Well, you did work me quite a bit. Perhaps the hot water will help my muscles. I feel like I did a full-body workout.”
“Oh yes, I like the idea of taking a shower.” He winks, and I push him off me with a chuckle.
“I meant alone .”
He pouts, sticking out his lower lip, which causes me to burst out laughing. “You’re pathetic.”
“I’d prefer love-sick.” He grabs my hand and helps me stand.
I go in search of my clothes, and I blush at the sight of the condom box we dug into four times last night.
“You shower. I’ll start lunch.” He cups my face and presses a quick peck to my lips. “And for what it’s worth, I’d kiss your stinky breath any fucking day.” He winks and walks out of the room in only his boxer briefs.
Once I’ve successfully showered, brushed my teeth, dressed, and thrown my hair up in the world’s messiest bun, I meet Mason in the kitchen.
Leaning in the doorway, I grin as he places two sandwiches on one plate and two more on another.
Then he grabs a handful of chips and places half on mine and half on his.
He opens the fridge, grabbing two sodas, and when his gaze meets mine, he smirks.
“You gonna watch me all day?”
“I’ve spent many days watching you. You were just too busy avoiding me,” I tell him, walking toward him and inhaling the scent of the coffee.
“You ever gonna let me live that down?” He snickers.
“Oh no.” I shake my head. “That’s going in our wedding vows.”
Mason sets the cans down, then wraps his arms around my waist. “Wedding vows?” He pops a brow. “I think the guy is supposed to do the proposing, but…”
“That was not a proposal,” I say pointedly, but I can’t wipe the smile off my face.
“Why not? We’re already living together. Have amazing chemistry.” Mason leans down and presses a kiss to my nose. “Pretty sure you’re obsessed with my cock. You love me. ”
I smirk. “And you’re clearly humble.”
Mason cups my cheeks, claiming my lips and stealing my breath away. “Amongst many other qualities, right?” He winks before sneaking another kiss.
I snort at the way he waggles his brows. “Just feed me.”
“You’ve got it, woman.”
After devouring our food, we sit on the couch with mugs of coffee and catch up on Lucifer .
Mason rubs my feet as we settle into a comfortable silence, laughing at the TV and sneaking side glances.
I rub the heel of my foot against his dick, knowing it won’t take much to get him hard.
Though I’m a little sore from our marathon sex last night, I can’t get enough of him.
Things feel so natural, so right with him, and I love spending these quiet Saturdays together with only the two of us.
As soon as the thought enters my mind, the front door bursts open, and Liam barrels into the living room wearing the same clothes he left in last night.
“Afternoon walk of shame?” I tease.
Liam wrinkles his nose, sniffing. “It smells like sex in here. Did you guys finally do it?” He narrows his eyes. “Wait. Did you do it in here ?”
“Have you two ever had boundaries?” I ask Mason.
“Nope. Not for lack of trying, though.”
“Yeah, you two totally did it,” he says, walking into the kitchen. “About damn time. But that means I’m gonna need noise-canceling headphones. I bet Soph’s a screamer.” He laughs to himself, then walks back into the living room with three beers in his hands. “Am I right?”
“Might be time to have that boundaries chat again.” I pat Mason’s leg with a mischievous grin and grab one of the beers. “I’ll be in my room.” I round the couch, then wink before leaving the two of them alone.
It takes Mason less than five minutes to charge into my bedroom and lock the door behind him.
I’m sitting propped up against my headboard with a book, my eyes scanning the sentences when I feel him between my thighs.
I hold back a smirk, keeping my gaze glued on the pages in front of me.
He slides his hands up my legs, under my shorts, and finds my sweet spot.
“What’re you doing?” I ask without looking at him.
“Oh, nothing. Keep reading your little book.”
“I’d hardly call it little,” I muse. “It’s a Teddy Leigh novel.”
“Oh, right. Your loverboy. Well…don’t mind me then.” He pulls my panties to the side and pushes a finger in. My breath hitches, but I don’t move. I’m not reading a damn word on the page, but I’ll gladly play his teasing game.
“Don’t worry, I won’t. This book is too damn good anyway.”
“Is that so?” He adds a second finger, thrusting harder and faster. “How about now?”
“I’m sorry, are you doing something?” I playfully yawn, flipping the page.
Mason rubs circles around my clit with his thumb, and my hips arch to greet him.
“I think you like that.” I hear the smile in his voice, but I’m not giving in yet.
“Not sure what you’re talking about.” I bite down on my lower lip to stop from moaning. Then the bastard increases his pace, calling my bluff.
“Your wet pussy knows what I’m talking about. Fuck, it’s squeezing my fingers so goddamn tight.” Mason’s words have my eyes rolling to the back of my head as he takes my body closer to the edge.
“Fine, you win,” I say, tossing the book to the floor. “Don’t stop doing that.” My back nearly flies off the bed as he sinks deeper.
Mason yanks his hand away, and when my eyes pop open, he’s shoving both fingers between his lips, then sucks them. “Always so fucking sweet.”
“You enjoy messing with me, don’t you?”
“Oh, Sophie. Haven’t you learned by now?” He crawls over my body until we’re face to face. “You’ve been the one messing with me for years. You just didn’t know it. Watching you shake your hips, your tits bounce, you sucking on that lower lip. It was torture.”
“That’s what you get…for friend-zoning me,” I tease, fisting his shirt and pulling him closer. “We have a lot of making up to do.”
“Fuck yes,” he growls, stealing a kiss. “Let’s start now.”
It’s a miracle I can walk by Monday morning.
Pretty sure it looks like I’ve done a thousand squats and spent all day at the gym.
I was exercising but not with workout equipment.
Now that Mason and I have crossed the line from waiting to complete sex fiends, we can’t seem to get enough of each other.
If we don’t end up in bed together, we’re making out in the shower, and it ends with one of us on our knees.
It’s truly like nothing I’ve ever felt before, but now that I have it, I’m scared as hell it’s going to be taken away from me again.
The rug has been pulled out from under me more times this year than in my entire life. Mason makes me feel things I’ve only read about in romance novels, and the fact that my reality is better than fiction is terrifying.
But I trust Mason more than anything and believe in the relationship we’re building together. I can’t stop the smile on my face, nor do I want to. He makes me the happiest I’ve ever been.
Mason
I miss you already. Skip work and come back home. I’ll make it worth it
Chuckling at his message, I blush and bite my lip. I hadn’t made it down the block, but I have no doubt Mason would make a day of playing hooky worth it.
Sophie
I just left! You haven’t had time to miss me yet.
Mason
Then why is my dick hard already?
Sophie
That’s a good question, considering you snuck in the shower with me this morning!
Mason
You liked it
I chuckle and roll my eyes then put my phone down when the light turns green. That man is insatiable.
Feeling more like myself and on cloud nine, rehearsal goes smoother than ever.
The fall recital is soon, and I’ve memorized each piece by heart.
The director even came up to me during one of our breaks and praised me for doing so well.
He tells me how happy he is to see the passion back in my eyes.
His words have me nearly skipping to my car afterward.
