We got a sort of production line going with me questioning the humans and Killian erasing select memories. Yes, it was a good magic to have, and one we should probably use more often. It only worked on humans, though.

I got little more from the others. All of them had similar experiences to Cliff. They answered an online ad, did a Skype interview, and got a free trip to Thailand. None of them questioned why vampire hunting needed to begin in Thailand or why they had to be flown in. I did, but they didn't have the answers.

I came out of the final interrogation to find Star prepping Losuc. The plan was that we'd tie the prisoners up again, and Losuc would do his rescue bit, putting on a show for them before taking them to Anita.

I joined them and asked, “Do we have a drop-off location yet?”

“Yes. It's Lumphini Park in Bangkok,” Star said. “We've got a mixed team on site, forming a net around the meeting spot.”

“They're already there?” Then I remembered that Star's guards could lalek the others. “Forget I asked that.”

Star chuckled. “We'll follow Anita Summers once she collects the humans. Hopefully, we can tag her vehicle too.”

“Perfect,” I said. “Maybe we can catch her by nightfall and wrap this thing up.”

“Aw, babe. Don't jinx us,” Killian whined as he came out of a room with the last vampire hunter. The hunter had a bag over his head. Killian handed him off to a waiting extinguisher, and she took the guy into the room where the rest of the prisoners were being held.

“I don't think jinxes apply to us,” Star said.

“Double jinx!” Kill pointed at Star. “What the hell, man?”

Star looked at me as if I could do something about Killian.

I shook my head. He was on his own. As was everyone where Killian was concerned.

“Are you ready, Losuc?” I asked.

“Yes, Light-Bringer. I know what to do.”

“Just be normal,” Star said. “Don't ask any questions. Your job is just to give her the hunters as you did with the others.”

“Yes, Your Majesty. By your leave.”

“Go,” Star said. “And may God go with you.”

“Thank you, Sire.” Losuc vanished in a rain of embers, heading into the other room.

“Shall we?” Star showed me a picture of the park on his cell phone, giving me a target to lalek to.

I looked around at the skeleton crew that had been left behind. “Should we take some vehicles just in case?”

“The tech van and another are already en route, Ambassador,” Extinguisher Teagan said. “We can go straight there.”

“Great. I—”

“Ambassador!” Leo, one of the Biters, pointed out the window.

A group of people were coming across the yard toward the house.

I went to the front door and opened it.

“Greetings, Ambassador Seren Firethorn,” the man in the lead said. “I am Lord Pichai of the Wild Hunt, and this is my team. We were called in to replace the last hunt. I apologize for our tardiness. The Council wanted local fairies for this and it took a while for them to gather us.”

A replacement hunt. Shit. I hadn't thought about that.

“You have impeccable timing, Lord Pichai,” I said. “We're about to lalek to a park in Bangkok. We're only to observe and track the target. Then we'll decide how to proceed.”

“Very good, Ambassador. We're at your disposal.”

I looked back in the house. “Are the prisoners gone?”

“Affirmative,” Extinguisher Teagan said.

“All right. If you're going with me, come out here.” I went to the fairies. “Circle up and clasp hands.”

Killian and Teagan joined our circle, and I laleked everyone to Lumpy Park. I mean, Lumphini Park. Ugh, Killian was right—these names are awful for English speakers.
