“Easy, Doc.” He slowly removed his hand from my pants, as though he was afraid I’d run.
Or punch him.
Honestly, either seemed possible at the moment.
“Rocco,” I said, not turning to look at him. “I can’t... you have to... just—please. Go.”
For a moment he said nothing, and I waited for him to snap at me, to reprimand me for what had happened, how I’d taken without giving.
He wouldn’t be the first guy who thought they were entitled to something from a woman.
But Rocco did none of those things, surprising me yet again.
“It’s alright, Mia,” he said gently, using my real name. I didn’t allow myself to acknowledge how much I hated that.
How I was already used to his playful nicknames.
“I’ll go.” Stepping away from me, Rock waited for me to look at him before giving me one of his signature smirks. “But...” he said, smiling that devil’s smile. “Don’t you think for a moment that this is over. Because, Doc?”
I watched in shocked astonishment as Rocco lifted his hand and placed his fingers—thosefingers—in his mouth, his hooded eyes boring into mine as he slowly drew them out again.
“I’m only getting started.”
Chapter fourteen
Rocco
“That’sright,”Isaidinto the phone, repeating the order again for the confused and possibly overwhelmed delivery driver. “Ten large pizzas, two dozen donuts, and twenty large coffees. All delivered to the emergency department.”
When I had finalized my order and given over my credit card information, I climbed behind the wheel of the Chevelle, considering how my evening had played out.
I could honestly say I was shocked by Mia’s response to me, but I was really fuckin’ glad about it, too. When I dragged her into that room, I had hoped that she’d be receptive; fuck knew she’d been ten thousand shades of prickly so far.
But fuckin’ hell, that woman had literallymeltedunder my hands.
I couldn’t wait to get her under me again.
Andthatwas fuckin’ unusual for me. Normally, women and I had a pretty good understanding: we got when we wanted, and they got the hell gone. It was simple and beautiful, and no one got their feelings hurt.
So why the hell was I thinkin’ of keeping her around? This was typically the part where I disappeared. Thanked them for a good time and drove off into the sunset. But for some reason, here I was, sitting in the parking lot of the hospital, watching the clock and waiting for Mia to be finished for the day.
If Enzo knew I was here, he’d be laughin’ his ass off.
Actually, where the hell was Enzo, anyway? I hadn’t heard from his ass since he and Francesca left for New York first thing in the morning, but their plane should have landed hours ago.
Considering all the shit that was going down, I was surprised he wasn’t phoning me every hour to check on things. It wasn’t like he’d never left town before, but this was the first time he’d left town while there was a hit man looking for his wife and a deranged drug kingpin trying to establish himself on our streets while simultaneously setting up a trafficking ring.
All in all, I was surprised he hadn’t checked in, the overbearing alpha asshole.
Frowning, I fired off a text to Enzo, telling him to stop banging his wife for half a minute and give me a call. Then, when the message went unanswered, I dialed up Lexi instead.
“The fuck?” was her garbled answer.
“You drunk, or sleeping?”
“Little bit of both, asshole. What the hell do you want?”
“You heard from your girl today?”
