I pull his cock from my mouth with a gasp and he pulls me to my feet. He crushes my mouth possessively, kissing me and holding me against his body.
“I think we might need another bath,” I whisper, struggling to catch my breath.
“I think you’re right.” He grips my ass in one big palm. “But don’t move. I want to stay like this for a second.”
I hide my smile against his chest and let him keep his big arms wrapped around my body.
I’m still mad at him.
But maybe I can vent some of that anger into more productive ventures.
Chapter 27
Casey
Iwake up and decide I’m not going to let Senesi control my life.
Even if he nearly stabbed me in the back yesterday.
I get dressed, put on my favorite work outfit, this cute little skirt and sweater combo, and I convince one of the Whelan guards to drive me to the office.
I’m afraid the whole way, but I keep it together. If I’m going to have a life, I have to find a way to master this terror.
But it’s like there’s a hole in me now, and Senesi’s peering up from the bottom with a wicked smile and a gleaming blade.
Waiting to cut my throat.
I slump down at my desk and feel strangely safe. I boot up my computer and get myself settled for another boring day doing nothing.
I’m not sure where Declan’s at.
We had sex in the bath. And then we had sex in my bed. I fell asleep at some point and he was gone when I got up to pee in the middle of the night. Probably back to his room.
I like that he’s trying to respect my boundaries, but the bed felt cold and empty after that.
Now I’m stuck wondering what he’s doing.
I know this transition into leadership isn’t easy. There are a lot of different factions he’s trying to juggle. I talked about it a little with Siobhan and she made it clear that the Whelan Clan is a lot more than their core little family. There are dozens of different gangs and affiliated organizations all folded underneath their umbrella.
Padraig Whelan kept it all going. And now it’s up to Declan to make sure it stays patched together.
“Ms. Brennan. You’re twenty minutes late.”
I whip my head around and stare. My heart’s hammering in my chest as Declan watches me from the door of his office, his face cold and hard. He’s the epitome of Boss Bastard again.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Whelan. I didn’t know you’d be here today.”
“What does my schedule have to do with you being on time?” His frown deepens as he turns away. “My office. Right now.”
I get up, feeling strangely afraid. I mean, Declan isn’t Boss Bastard anymore, right? Our relationship is a lot different now than it used to be.
I don’t have to be terrified of him anymore.
So what if he yells at me?
I’ll yell right back.
But I feel small all over again as I close the door behind me and face him. He’s standing behind his desk and peering out the windows as the city wakes around us. His expression is tense and drawn, and a candle of worry flickers to life in my chest.
