Page 85 of Antagonist
I move to the couch and pull him into my arms.
“Hey,” I whisper. “Talk to me.”
“I don’t want to let him go, Harrison. I’ll miss him too much.”
My heart breaks for him, but all I can do is hold him. I’m too scared of saying anything that’ll push him away.
“Is Fran really determined to take George?” I ask.
He nods against my chest. I push his hair back to look at his tear-stained but still so beautiful face. His eyes are red and have never looked so sad.
“I’m a mess,” he says.
“A gorgeous mess.”
I run a finger over his top lip. He opens his mouth and sucks my finger in. His tongue swirls around the tip and his teeth bite until it’s a little painful.
“Fletcher, Fletcher, you’re taking me to an early grave.”
He releases my finger and turns in my arms until he’s practically straddling me.
“I need to ask you something.”
“Anything.”
“I want to be able to talk to you about Fran and George without you stepping in. I will be frustrated and angry, and I’ll want to offload, but this is something I need to do on my own. If I have to take any kind of action that requires legal advice, I’ll ask you for it, okay? Otherwise, I’d like you to…just…um…” He hides his face, but I cradle his chin, making him look at me.
“You’d like me to…what, Fletcher?”
“Do you have a piece of paper and a pen?”
I reach over to the coffee table, where I keep a notepad and some pens in the drawer.
Fletcher moves off my lap and writes something down before tearing the page out. Then he folds it and gives it to me.
I laugh when I open the piece of paper and read,Do you want to be my boyfriend? Circle the right answer.Below his question, there’s only a single option.
It doesn’t matter because I don’t want any other choices.
Fletcher is it for me.
I throw the paper on the table and launch myself at him, capturing his mouth with a hungry kiss.
It’s more than a hungry kiss. It’s a kiss that conveys how much I want him, how much I hope we can build something together because this man is so deep under my skin I don’t think I could get him out if I wanted to.
“Fuck,” he gasps when I let go of his mouth to kiss his neck. “That’s one hell of a yes.”
“Did you want me to pick the other option?”
“There was no other option,” he says.
“Then I guess you’re stuck with me.”
“Did you say you want to suck me?”
I laugh again.
He hits my shoulder. “Are you laughing at me?”
