Page 44 of Antagonist
The encounter with Jake with left me feeling unsettled. So what if I’ve hooked up with people? I’m a single man, and as long as what I do doesn’t affect George’s life and wellbeing, it’s no one’s business who I fuck.
And I certainly don't Harrison to be the knight in shiny armor for me.
I head back to the kitchen and start cleaning the counter again. Even the spice shelf gets a thorough wipe down, but no matter how much I do, the one thing I can’t seem to manage is to scrub Harrison from my mind.
My phone pings with a message.
Liv:Enquiring minds want to know what’s up with you and Harrison.
Fletcher:Don’t know what you’re talking about.
Liv:Okay, let’s pretend for a second that I didn’t see you basically shove your butt into Harrison’s face after Arlo’s class yesterday. Oh, wait, let’s not pretend. I know what I saw.
Fetcher:It was nothing.
Liv:Nothing? I thought you were auditioning for Magic Mike. You can tell us your story, or we’ll make one up.
The doorbell rings, so I quickly text back.
Fletcher:Another time. Someone’s at the door.
Liv:Yeah, it’s Harrison wanting to suck your dick after you teased his brains out.
I laugh as I put the phone down.
My choice of tight jeans paired with a Henley shirt wasn’t totally innocent. I know how I look.
But I didn’t actually think Harrison would be the one picking up Megan, considering I’d met Stella at school during the week and she’d told me Harrison was working on a case and doing long hours, so she was picking up Megan all week. And I didn’t think he’d be sitting in the area Sage had created rather than standing outside the room like most of the parents.
So when I walked into the room just before the class ended and saw him by the coffee machine, I couldn’t resist putting on a little show for him.
Thank you, Elle Woods, for the bend and snap.
Or, in my case, the bend and slow rise.
If Harrison thinks I’m slut, then I may as well have fun pretending he’s right.
I’m still chuckling to myself when I open the door without looking through the peephole.
Big mistake because I could have used some warning before finding myself face to face with Harrison. Megan is holding his hand with a big smile on her face.
“Can I play with George? Please?”
I step back to let them in.
“Sure, he’s upstairs in his room. Second door on the left.”
She runs upstairs, leaving me with Harrison.
“Um…I can drop her at your place when they’re finished playing, or I can call you,” I say, avoiding making eye contact. Yesterday’s bravado deserts me in my hour of need.
When he doesn’t say anything, I ask if he wants to come in.
“Sure,” he says.
As Harrison follows me to the living room, I don’t know how I feel about having him in my personal space.
“How did you find out where I live?”
